Thanks for the reply. I have already contacted PG music and was told it may work, but they aren't sure how well. I've been running BIAB 2004 for years with no problems. I was just wondering if anyone else has been running Version 2015 on a similar system, and how well it works for them. The more I think about this old computer the more the word 'Bathymetry' comes to mind. (lol)

That's basically the same machine I gave to a friend about 4 years ago. Biab 2004 is all midi, that takes very little processor power and even less memory, not so with all the new audio Real Tracks and Drums. I doubt this PC will play all the video's in the new version either.
I'm not trying to spend your money for you, don't know your situation but that machine is an antique. They won't even take it as a donation at the Salvation Army around here. They sell Core Duo's with a keyboard, mouse and a 17" flat screen monitor for $120.
Time to upgrade.

I agree, Bob. The machine is definitely a relic. I had my doubts about whether or not it would run BIAB 2015 from the git-go. I run BIAB 2004, Power Tracks 12, Sonar 6 Producer Edition and Sonar 7 Producer Edition with minimal problems. My wife has been after me to buy myself a new computer, but being a miser (lol) I refuse to part with the money. Thanks for the reply....

I haven't purchased 2015 yet but I have not had any issues I can directly relate to my computer running 2014. Comparing your computer and mine, the memory ram is the same. Your processor is faster than mine and both are dual core.
One thing you didn't mention is storage. I have 80 gig primary and 1 TB secondary with BiaB running from the 1 TB drive. I run everything I can from secondary drive. I also defrag both drives weekly. Greatly reduces the load when the computer doesn't have to fight for space or spend cycles housekeeping.

If you're going to run an old machine, use the two settings in Preferences, RealTracks that mention older machines.
To be reassured, download and run the free utility, Geekbench. Your score needs to be better than 1500 or so to expect decent results.

Thanks for the reply Jim. I'm not hurting for storage.
C: 250gb (Free space: 194gb)
F: 750gb (Free space: 530gb)
G: 2tb (external drive -- system backup)
My system is 32 bit and was I wondering if BIAB 2015 would run at that sample rate. Anyway, I'm going to purchase it and give it a try.

Just curious. I assume D: is your optical drive (CD/DVD). What is using E:?
Some other things I'll mention. My cpu useage seems to average 40 - 50% so it does heat up a few degrees. I keep a close eye on the power supply fan to make sure it doesn't stall due to dust bunnies. I also open up the case and use compressed air and an antistatic brush to clean out the interior.
I also replaced the power supply last year. Power supply electrical components degrade over time. Power supplies are good for about 7 to 10 years. After that, they still provide power but the power has so much noise and the power so unstable the cpu becomes unreliable.
What I have suits my needs and is stable so I have a difficult time justifying an upgrade.

Jim, after the boot drive C:, Windows normally leaves D: and E: vacant for CD/DVD drives. F: is also used as the next drive going back to a convention established by the old Novell Netware, so E: would be free for the network drive without overwriting local drive assignments. Nowadays, E: is often assigned to the first flash drive you insert. Kajun Jeaux has a perfectly normal setup. Mine looks the same.

Matt, I've seen Windows system allocate drive letters as you say but I've also seen automatic allocations of E as the secondary drive and X, Y & Z reserved for network drives. It may have something to do with what edition (home, pro, media, etc.) is used with pro editions following one convention and home editions another convention. I don't know. It seems like Windows had multiple rules and conventions.

FWIW - no-one told me that 2015 won't run on XP. No-one told my XP based PC either so it runs absolutely fine.

Give it a try. If it stutters at times the following might apply:
If possible, get more RAM. 2 GB is enough for MIDI but not for RealTracks if there are more than one chord change per every four beats. I did have that experience. Maybe you still get RAM on ebay for your machine decently priced. Often computers with the same age as yours don't accept more RAM --> get a new computer; one that has the option of having at least 16 GB RAM.
Your processor should still be fast enough, but more cores are better.
Running BIAB from an external disk using USB 2.0 also could slow down the data transfer for RealTracks. If you run it from a second disk, use an internal one. Newer SSDs could help, but: If you spend 400 bucks or more for an SSD with 1 marketing-TB, use that money more wisely on a newer machine.
Probably BIAB 2015 will run, since it is not yet a 64-bit software. But some of its properties and side tools and utility files may be a little more ressource consuming than your computer will welcomingly accept. It probably will be kind-a grumpy.

Also concur with GHinCH - put 2 more GB of ram in there (4GB total, which is max for Win XP 32 anyway)
Note, and before others jump on that statement to show their hexadecimal prowess, WIN XP can really only address MOST of that 4GB (something like ~3.5GB) but easier to change HW memory chips in multiple of 2's.

I would be surprised if your machine tests any higher than 1300 or so. My machine was a decently fast machine when I built it 3 years ago, now it's probably somewhere in the middle of the pack. My score is around 7,700. Intel i5's are well over 10,000 and a hotrodded i7 can be 20,000. The question isn't simply will it run Biab the question is will it run fast enough without audio glitches to allow you to do anything meaningful with it. Even though all the PG marketing is all about the RT's there's nothing wrong with midi if you're using a good synth, but what's a good synth? The $40 Coyote Forte isn't a good synth but if that's good enough for you great. Kontakt, Halion, Sampletank 3 are good synths and they take some horsepower to run. Trying to run a $500 software synth on a $50 old computer makes no sense. But, a hardware synth like the Ketron puts zero strain on your PC and if you're running hardware using all midi with the exception of a Real Drums track your PC should be fine. However if you like the idea of using 6 or 7 Real Tracks including a Soloist RT and using all the new bells and whistles Biab has like running audio acid loops then you'll be disappointed. You already have the machine now, you're planning on getting Biab 2015 anyway so no harm in running it and see what happens. You can always pick up a new PC any time. Bob

Yes, it does run fine in Windows XP. We tested it in house on several XP systems, and some of the beta testers also tested on XP.
