I never run BIAB from my external drive. I store the songs on the external drive and when I intend to work on any one of the songs, I load it into BIAB, save it to C, BIAB. Then I pull the song back into BIAB from the the C drive, do the work, then save it back to the external drive. When I'm all done, unless I intend to work on the same song soon, I usually delete it from the C drive.

BTW, I also run Power Tracks 'PT12' and 'Sonar' using the same storage strategy. It allows more space on my C drive.

I haven't purchased BIAB 2015 yet, but I plan to do it this week. In the meantime I'm still running BIAB 2004.
