Kind of a simple question - is there a total number of styles you should have if you are up to date in version 2015?
How do you know if styles are missing?
I have a handful of 3rd party styles - like Norton.
My styles list is at 3800+

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Determining the number of styles that one should have is not always straightforward.

For example if a user has purchased some bonus packs over the years, s/he would have picked up a few additional styles here and there that were not always made generally available at a later date. As you've indicated, there are also Norton's styles as well as any other style that a might have created. Lastly, it's not just the version of the program that determines the number of styles but also the package (e.g. UltraPlusPak, ProPack, etc.).

I have been upgrading to the UltraPlusPak since 2007 or 2008 and have usually bought every bonus along the way. I've also made a few of my own styles and have found a couple on the net. My cumulative style count is 4,428 (I always install new versions of the program over the existing version and thus retain all that I've collected).

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Noel

Funny you should ask

This is not official PG numbers (although I am sure they can tell you) there are officially 78 Style disks ("0" is built in and then the 77 others) - just kidding

1. I own all PG styles (all RT's, all MIDI, all supertracks, etc. including rare onesie-twosie's that that were in bonus only paks)

2. ON MY PC I have Norton Styles, and at least a few dozen non-PG styles (but NO built USER styles - meaning no styles that I BUILT) and there are *.sty's files everywhere in my BIAB folder a lot of duplicates (like "ZZPOPBAL.STY" 10 copies in various folders, and "ZZBOUNCY.STY" 6 copies, etc.) so… some sorting needs done.

I went into the Style picker, refreshed it it shows:

"all Styles [4424]" and "Total style entries = 10994" as shown in the style picker title bar (top of that window). But I know there are styles lower that are NOT counted in the "All Styles" so that didn't help much - close but not exact. Some are counted multiple times, some are unique, etc.

So I created a .csv of everything listed, moved it into Multi-Edit (a programmers text editor that can handle, essentially, unlimited columns of information and as many lines as can be "held" by all PC HDD storage space) and verified that every entry listed in the Style Picker window, under all headings, were in the file.

Next, I imported that CSV into MS Access (database , where things can be properly sorted and counted. Excel sucks at this kind of stuff compared to an actual database -besides DB's are second nature to me)

Total ENTIRES in the file are: 18,695.

Total UNIQUE entries are: 5111

Total NON-Norton entries are: 4723

Hence, Total Norton entries are: 388

Unfortunately, the non-Norton number (4723) is LARGER by at least a dozen (or multiple dozens?) then actual PG supplied styles.

I repeated the above on a virgin 2015 PG Ultraplus Pak HDD:

Virgin 2015 PG Ultraplus Pak HDD (without running the 49 pak add-on; no accumulated PG .stys that may have been made available in past bouns paks; no other 3rd party styles, etc.)

Style Picker window:

"all Styles [4367]" and "Total style entries = 9538"

And DB queried Style Picker created CSV file:

Total ENTIRES in the file are: 17,235

Total UNIQUE entries are: 4,389

Total Norton entries are: 0 (as it should be)

Thanks Larry and Noel.

I just ordered the Ultra Pak for the first time to catch up missing RealTracks. And so, the issue of styles came to mind.

Watching the 'what's new' 45 minute video - you can see the PC they're using has about 4400 or so in the style picker.

Still waiting for the HD to arrive but I've downloaded the update and 49 pak.

Guess there's no one number.

Thanks - and nice job on crunching the numbers Larry.

The Stylepicker crashes if you reach "style entries" of 20,000 - that is the number at the top of the Stylepicker window. Every time a style is listed in one of the categories it counts as another entry so you can reach 20,000 with far fewer actual styles.

I ran into this problem when I created more categories in an effort to organize Stylepicker more logically.

Tony, did you report this to PG Music, that you exceeded the 20,000 limit? Dr. Gannon already raised the limit to the current 20,000. I would imagine it could be raised further.

Thanks Matt

It was PG tech support who told me about the 20,000 limit. I was working with them to discover why Stylepicker was crashing.

As I mentioned I was trying to make Stylepicker easier to use with more categories. For my use of BIAB the ridiculous Stylepicker interface is a more important problem than the overall GUI.

I hit this limit also and had to remove some of my. ls3 files. Hopefully they will raise the limit again.
