The "preferred" driver is a function of the sound card or interface. IT is the determining factor since it is normally designed to work with a certain specific driver. The better interfaces will work with all or most, but the factory sound cards in most computers you buy off the shelf will not function well with ASIO so in that case...yes.... MME is the preferred driver for most factory cards.

No problem with that (MME on factory cards)....... however, MME has a difficult time processing soft synths and getting the audio to the speakers synced up with everything else. It seems to work OK on audio and smaller projects.
