errrm so I've writing a song with a few odd chords I've tried entering these via 1.direct typing 2."Enter current chord" function 3. by attempting to select manually by the chord composer but, NONE of these options work. 1.often I just want the 1 and 3 played without the 5 or any other notes - can I do this in BIAB? 2. other unusual chords I cant seem to type in or select manually OR input via "INSERT CURRENT CHORD" option are ('as described by Logic Pro' when i write them there) -'F# no3 5/7' (C# E F#) -'Db no3 7' (B C#) -'B no3 7' (A B) so, how do I do this in BIAB Mac? or can anyone confirm if I actually can? And if not, seriously BIAB, sort it out? Much Gratitude x Atlantis https://soundcloud.com/atlantisz

Hi a-z,
From memory, BIAB supports around 130 chord types for every key. The ones you list, though, are not part of that extensive repertoire. The names that Logic Pro has derived seem to be an attempt to provide some kind of nomenclature because the chords given are not standard names that are found on sheet music.
From a BIAB perspective, F#5 could be used for the first chord as a substitute. For the other two, since BIAB chords are 3+ notes, it's necessary to know a little more about the context of your music to be able to recommend a substitute.
To define a chord, it really needs to have a minimum of three notes. For example, the A-B that you give could belong to B7, B9, B11, B13, A9, Asus2, Am9, D6, Dm6, G9 just to name a few of many possibilities.
Regards, Noel

thanks Noel yes its unusual and not a chord by definition just to have the two notes but chosen specifically to get the sound just the two make without the other notes. Only done in very rare places which respond to the lyrics going sour then returning to bright happy sounds. It's great to have this clarification that its not possible in BIAB. I'll just have to write the full chord with 3 notes then write over it in Logic Pro with my own two notes louder to get the effect... I think that will work. I'm not doing it in all my songs but the current one I'm working on requires it in a few targeted places. thanks for the info much much appreciated Cheers Atlantis https://soundcloud.com/atlantisz

Noel I'm on another now that Logic Pro defines as Eno35/6... which is B C# E, how would you enter that in to Band in a Box?

thanks I just tried E5 but its missing the c# and definitely the wrong sound. in the meantime I'm using an A as it sounds closer but I'd definitely love to crack this because I probably won't stop writing occasional odd chords in odd places. havent' tried the others you mentioned in my other song but will give them a go.

A-Z:
When you import your midi tracks to your DAW, could you just edit the track and delete the unwanted notes?
If your importing .wav files, maybe you want to consider, for the offending track, to make it a midi and assign it an instrument from one of your DAW soft-synths after your edit.
Just and idea ..

I was going to suggest something similar, i.e. go with a midi track (Realtracks are never going to crack these!), enter the closest 3-note chord, generate the track, then freeze it and in the note editor erase the notes you didn't want. It's a cumbersome workaround for sure, but probably the only way you got.

I have an odd chord I'd want to enter into BIAB.
It's Bm7sus4. The guitar notes of this chord are E-D-B-F#-A.
I'd like the chord to pause for two beats.
It is the second chord in a measure. The first chord of the measure is Am.
Would the measure look something like this?:
Am Bm7sus4... or Am ^Bm7sus4
How do I type it?

Hi FM,
A sus4 chord is neither major nor minor because the 3rd (that tone that defines major or minor mode) is replaced with the 4th.
From the notes you give, what you are after looks to be a minor 7th (B D F# A) with the 11th (E) added. Try Bm11 and see if that works for you.
A B7sus4 (or B7sus in BIAB terminology) is B E F# A (there is no D).
Hope this helps, Noel
