This is STRANGE... I just replaced my M-Audio Fat Track Ultra because it was just too complex to deal with (and I am a software guy.. just not an audio guru.) I got a much simpler Focusright Scarlett 4i2. Well, it was so noisy (after installing and re-installing drivers) that I wiped my C-Drive and re-installed Windows 7 64-bit from scratch. Then I re installed all my drivers, essential programs etc.

Finally got a clean, pure sound. I was trying to show it off to my son, who was recording some Xmas tunes. We did one in C, and it sounded great. He decided it was too high, so I transposed the tune to Bb. He re-recorded the audio and the vocals were TOTALLY out of key. I restored factory settings, re-installed the USB drivers for the 4i2, tried different ASIO buffer sizes, tried MME (which used to work.. it's a quad core box) and tried ASIO4all.

Still, I can only record audio in the original key of the tune. I tried SAVING the song and re-recording, but the same results. This is driving me nuts. Any ideas? I am running Version 2015 (414)

PhillyJazz,

Before re-recording ...

... first try killing the audio. Once that's done, save the song file and then record the vocals. This may make a difference.

Let us know how it works out.

Noel

Hmmm. How about a different sample rate? Check the software mixer to see that your Focusrite is set to 44.1.

ps I love the typo: M-Audio Fat Track! I'm sure they would have loved to have named it Fat (as in Phat).

Check song settings - transpose audio by ----- setting. It should be zero. This is a feature in BB 2015 that lets you transpose audio.

Dr. Gannon,

I have the same problem. I spent quite a bit of time with support and they said they would get back to me when they figured it out.

I did kill the previous audio and the "transpose audio by" is set at zero.

We determined that my problem occurred when i used the "Transpose and set key signature option".

I found later that I could only record in tune in the key of C.

My only work around is to use the "Just set key signature (no transpose)". That works, but it is a pain.

I trust that this can be cleared up in the near future.

Thanks for listening.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.. I've been going nuts trying to figure this out. Did it happen with 2014, or just 2015? I had tried all the above suggestions. My tune happened to be in C but I will try some others (and also a different machine/input)

PhillyJazz,

Some thoughts to help narrow down the problem ...

Given what Curmudgeon says above, try creating a song in some key other than C. Set the key signature, etc.

Once you've got the song created, see if audio records in tune.

If it doesn't ...

Set the key signature to C but choose the option that DOES NOT transpose the chords.

Now try recording and see what happens.

Regards,
Noel

More crazy stuff in the forum.
You are hearing Bb in the backing track and you are singing Bb, but playback is different? How in gods name are you not able to record in the key you are singing in??

I tried it on another computer both with my sound module and with the native Realtek internal microphone (Asio and MME.) It does not appear specific to the key of "C" but the original key of the tune.

Fir example, I sang "A Foggy Day" in F - the original. It sounded fine. Then I transposed it down to Ab, killed the audio and sang it. It came out Chipmonks. My ear is not great, but my assumption is that it remained in F. Even saving the tune and re-opening it gives the same issue. It's as though the audio is locked to the original key.

Can someone try this and verify that it's not just me? I am actually TRANSPOSING the tunes.. not the Display notation.

I just re-installed 2014 on a separate drive and am having no issues whatsoever. As long as I kill the audio, I can transpose the tune to any key and record without re-saving the file or anything...

After transposing from F to Ab, did you check what Peter suggested in his post?

I suspect that a transpose will also automatically alter this setting from 0.

Noel,

Mine is finally working. It does all come down to the song settings as Dr. Gannon said.

When I transpose from one key to another the semi-tone steps are recorded in the display box. If there is a check in the checkbox, the recording will be off by that amount.

If I kill the previous audio and leave the box unchecked, it works fine, except for my croaky voice.

Hope that explains it.

Don S.

That actually seems to work. I am not sure WHY the default would not be zero creating an extra step in the process, but since it works, THANK YOU and Merry Christmas!

Lol ... That had me stumped... I did a LOT of debugging before I found out it was a FEATURE... smile

I sure appreciate Dr. Gannon jumping in. Now I wonder what would be a good use for transposing a tune, yet leaving the audio in the previous key? I don't doubt that there might be a good reason to do so. I just can't think of one.

I had been checking the transpose setting BEFORE I changed keys, but not AFTER. When I finally looked at the NEW settings, it was a forehead slapper.

But anyway, I'm glad not to be spending Christmas Eve swapping out sound modules, re-installing BIAB etc.

We plan on adding a yellow flash message that if you ever load a song that has transposed audio, it will tell you that, and tell you how you can disable the transpose if you don't want it. I've main menu - Edit song settings audio transpose = 0
