I am trying to program "Cute" (Neil Hefti.) Simple plan - A-section is 4 on the floor swing, B is drum solo. But the drum solos I have are MIDI and start the solo on the second or third bar. I need a solo to start on-demand (on a bar line) immediately when summoned. (I'd prefer RealTracks, but I can deal with MIDI if I must.) Are there tracks that will supply this? I have:
RealDrums sets in C:\bb\Drums\ : 1- Rock and Jazz, 2- Waltzes, Country, and More, 3- Fusion, Hip-Hop, and More, 4- Pop, Rock, and More, 5- Latin, 6- Nashville Classic, 8- Lite Pop, 10- Bossa and Jazz, 11- About Time, 12- Salsa Clasica, 13- Salsa Moderna, 17- Terry Clarke Modern Jazz, 18- Terry Clarke Classic Jazz & Bossa, 19- Terry Clarke Trading Fours, 20- LA Pop Jazz, 23- Classic Jazz, 24- Jazz Waltz, 25- Nashville Brushes 1, 28- Smooth Jazz

and do not need any more country or rock styles (though I would LOVE a good Toto or Lionel-Ritchie-style power ballad...)

But if there is a (modern, please, Krupa is 80 years ago) drum solo option, I'd love it. And if there is a Brush Solo, that would be perfect!

Thanks.

If the solo itself is what you're looking for then move on over to Real Band. There you can easily generate the solo, highlight it and slide it back to the bar line. In fact, you can take that one solo and copy/paste it throughout Cute and you're done. All you need is one good instance of it.

Now, I'm going to get "Cute" myself. Take an original recording of Cute from whatever source, and load it into RB by using the import audio command. Cut and paste the drum solo part out and use that in your version. I promise I won't tell anybody...

Ok, actually here's how to use it in Biab. Take that snippet of the drum solo and create an acidized loop of it in Biab. Biab has an audio track but I think it's easier to edit that snippet in RB first then move it to Biab as a loop. What's so cool about loops is once it's created and put into the loop folder Biab can take it and it will work like any other RT in that if you change tempo the loop will follow, if the loop is a regular instrument and you change keys it will change keys too. Read the Help and/or watch the video about creating loops.

I haven't used RB enough to know its capabilities. Soulds like the simplest solution. But...

Wow! Great BiaB idea I never would have thought of. And I LIKE the recorded snippets idea, my audience would either not care, not notice - or LOVE it......

Several years ago when RB first came out I was messing around with Spyro Gyra's version of White Christmas. It was their typical killer latin fusion stuff. I loaded it into RB and tacked on their intro to a Real Tracks version of the rest of the song. With a little EQ and massaging the exact point where it was attached to the RB file you could barely tell where their intro stopped and the RB tracks began. I posted it here and people were amazed by that.

There's lots of famous recordings where there will be some killer drum intro or an isolated guitar lick or whatever. You can do the same thing with any of those.

Sometimes you will hear a pop where you insert a snippet like that. What you do then is go into the audio edit window and highlight that section, blow it up to where you're only looking at a hundredth of a second of time and apply the gain change effect to zero out the volume for just that one tiny section. Voila, no more pop.

See, now you're learning the secrets that engineers use to clean up what would be a crappy track. There's so much you can do with this software, it's unbelievable.

Bob, thanks for the ideas. I do frequently edit tracks, but I haven't done this in RB very much (and not at all in BiaB.)

For most of the songs I sequence, it takes more time that I want to put in to make the arrangement something special, mostly I generate standard vanilla 40s tracks - head in, 1-3 solo choruses depending on speed, and one out. Whoopee... But it's a restaurant, not a concert.

So BiaB generally is perfect for these tunes, and sounds WAY, WAY better than my earlier default - iReal Pro on the iPad, a wonderful tool, but with very limited audio options. If I need a specific bass line for a song, either I take the time to create one or rethink the arrangement - came up with a cool version of Watermelon man that way; the stock options usually produce excellent results.

But the bottom line is I really just need to learn this tool better, so I can do what it is CAPABLE of, not just what I know about (still have a couple hundred unread pages in the manual...) So I have more to do over the holiday...

So MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HOLIDAZE etc. to you, Noel and the rest of the gang here.
