It's been a while since I posted some real down home country twang so here's a fun little ditty I wrote a couple of days before Christmas. Here's the story behind the song if you're interested. giggle....

Hope you get a kick out of it. All RTs - RD Nashville Shuffle. Bass 540. Guitars 944,947,1707. Piano 2022. Organ 1560.

I Saw Elvis At The Quick Stop

It started out a routine run
to grab a case cause we was down to none
on a Saturday in the middle of June
I parked on the side in an empty spot
Trying to hurry it was getting hot
Didn't notice he was walking out when I was walking in
'til I almost ran right smack into him
looking up I grinned
looking up I grinned

I saw Elvis at the Quik stop
Like a deer in the headlights my jaw dropped
My knees almost hit the floor
He was holding that door and smiled hello
Oh I thought I might be dead
Still don't know what I said
But I was singing all shook up
on the drive back home

Jet black hair tossled from the wind
His teeth so white the store lights dimmed
So tall and tan in that light blue tee
All I could do was hem and haw
Fighting a powerful urge to run for my car
And follow him down the road but I ain't no freak
It's amazing how good looking one man could be
It happened to me
it happened to me

Now you don't have to believe it's true
It's not facebooked, tweeted, instagramed
or a video on youtube

repeat chorus and tag out.

Hey Charlie,

Thank you.

I get so emotionally intense with songs that every once in a while I gotta let go and write one for fun to clear my head. I've been an E fan since I was three dancing to my teenage sister's records so I had a good time with this one.

UH HUH HUH ,*wiggles hips" cool

I enjoyed that a lot, the words painted a wonderful picture.
And a good story behind the idea for the song.

Kirsty McCall did a song years back about a guy who works down the chip shop who swears he's Elvis and YOUR song is up there with it, well maybe just a smidge or two above laugh

Production everything is BRILLIANT.

Well done

What a great theme for a song too. Nice country feel, with a top story line.

Hi Josie,

Loved the lyrics, v funny smile Vocals/harmonies etc all perfect too.

I also thought the country feel was a good match for the song and the breaks in instrumentation at various locations were nicely placed.

Congrats!

I love this song! Everyone here knows how big of an Elvis fan I am, this is perfect. I remember when he first passed away, almost everyday someone was claiming to have seen him somewhere. I thought I had one of these moments on one of my visits to Graceland. As I was walking up the drive to the house, there was an Elvis imitator sitting on the steps; and from a distance he looked just like Elvis. It was one of those moments when you could imagine Elvis himself sitting there. Thanks for sharing!

Josie...... kinda glad I finally dropped in on this.

Nice country twanger.... There's a lot to like about this song. I could hear someone like Carleen Carter, or Miranda Lambert singing this..... It's a fun song.

I really liked the production chops you used..... backing out to just drums in a few places. When the guitar brought it back in with a short lick.... that guitar needed a clockwise twist of the volume knob right there...since it was almost lost in the background.

Way to go and looking to hear more stuff like that from you. The song, I think, may have been one of your best so far.

I've never been an Elvis fan but curiosity got the better of me on this and I'm glad I dropped in for a listen..... I played in a band once upon a time where the singer was an Elvis imitator. So much so that he used the EP mannerisms in his "normal" daily life. Sad thing was that this guy really could have made a ton of money in music doing the Elvis shows because he was actually pretty good at it..... but he never wanted to spend the time to get the music right..... "Just give me a "G" chord boys...." I didn't stay in that band very long....

Josie,
I still can't get it to play... (been having trouble with Sound Cloud playing lately)

but I guess you're aware that the PGMusic facebook page featured this song today...?

JOSIE'S SONG

OK, it finally played for me!
It was definitely fun for ME to listen to, but I like the fact that it sounds like YOU had a lot of fun performing it! It was very evident in several places that you were totally unencumbered by self conscious "song writing" inhibitions, because you couldn't have whole-heartedly played with the timing and inflections the way you did unless you were just having a blast!

I especially liked you change of delivery at the lines:
Quote:
"He was holding that door and smiled hello
Oh I thought I might be dead

sounded like you were totally smitten! (I assume that's the feeling you were shooting for, right?)

And the fact that it's based on a true story makes a very clever and fun song all the more intriguing on a whole new level!

Nice project all around Josie! It made me happy to hear you cut loose and let yourself have fun with it!

Hi Josie,

This is incredibly good on every level possible: the production is crisp and sparkles with clarity; your arrangement is thoughtful and very well designed; your singing is both-thumbs-up great; the composition is witty and very intelligently written.

This could all so easily be a hit!

Ok ... I'm heading back to listen again.

All the best,
Noel

Hi Josie,

Hilarious! I'd be pretty shook up too if I saw Elvis, were it not for the fact that he's my next door neighbor. Now he wears a disguise and weighs about 400. So it seems pretty clear that you saw an Elvis impersonator. This wouldn't have been around Halloween would it?

Thank you Robert, I loved going to Graceland it's sort of a surreal experience for a fan and that had to make it even more so. I've loved Elvis as long as I can remember. One of my friend's sons is a tribute artist and won first place at Elvis week last year. He doesn't really look like him that much but his sound and mannerisms are spot on.

Thank you very much Herb. Years ago I sang a demo for a song going to a specific country artist and I had so much fun with my version of her style that it's my alter ego when I want to really go for the twang. Yeah I had that guitar louder but it just didn't work well....I think there might have been some noise on the track I couldn't get out. Not sure now, but I remember trying it louder then having to pull it back to where it is for some reason. Too bad that guy wasn't willing to put in the work. From what I hear it's a fun job that pays great if you do it right.

Thank you very much Pat. What insightful and nice things to say. And thanks for the heads up on the FB page.

LOL! Dean. No, it was in early summer and there he was in shorts and sandals. I was all shook up calling my BFF like honey you ain't gonna believe what just happened to me. grin

Thank you to everyone again who listened and left a comment. I appreciate you.

Here's the video I made of me singing the song from a little rattan loveseat like I was telling the story to a friend - I wanted to do something more than just a lyric video so here's grandma... LOL! Thanks for watching.

OH my, now we have Josie the actress. This was really nice and great effects with the video. I was particularly impressed with the accuracy of your lip-syncing.

Pretty good timing with that right toe tapping too.

Thanks Charlie. I read somewhere when making a video to always turn the audio track up loud and actually sing with it so I cranked the volume and let her fly. grin blush

Josie,

I have been out of pocket for the past month, and it was a real pleasure to see one of your songs here when I came back! This one is really a lot of fun! I ministered at a church a few years ago, where the worship leader was a local celebrity Elvis impersonator. He had a Rolls Royce (an old one) that he drove to events and performed as Elvis. He was actually pretty good. Imagine, going to church with Elvis as the worship leader! smile

I really enjoyed this one! Good to hear you again.

Hi Josie!

I liked the song, and now I love the video! I think your facial expressions in the video do a lot to convey the thrill of seeing "Elvis"

And I noticed that you were keeping time with your toe. Cute.
