I am new to the Forum and also new to BIAB. I just installed BIAB 2015. I have created three songs from our song list. Our Drummer and Keyboard players have moved out of state and we are using BIAB to get it going. We play several Cover Songs and I would like to know if there is a forum pertaining to users exchanging Song Setting for certain Cover Songs i.e. Tempo, style, and real tracks.

It's well known that BB is a perfect solution to doing cover tunes..... the only issue with a cover song is that it's copyrighted and PG doesn't want them posted here UNLESS you have the rights to do so....which means you bought the internet license for that song.

As far as discussing aspects of cover songs.... no issues or prohibitions there that I'm aware of.

Simply start a thread in the OFF TOPIC forum, like you did here.... and ask the questions. You should get plenty of advice.

In addition, you could strip out the melody, and any identifiable harmony 'hits', and post the rest. That would still show tempo, style and RealTracks choices.

Also be sure to mention if your intent is to go for a more or less same arrangement as the original, or if you're looking for inputs on rearranging ideas.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!

I normally use BIAB to create backing tracks for cover songs, which can't be posted to the user showcase. But some way to trade cover song info has been requested in the past, so there's a niche there that isn't being filled.

I considered taking my completed trax and changing the melody and stripping out the signature licks and posting it as a new song to the showcase, with a link to the SGU file and note that by muting the melody, the real tracks and song structure would work for (insert cover song name here)

I think that would avoid any legal problems if the signature licks and melody and lyrics were omitted.. but it would also provide a basis for sharing a large part of the work that went into finding all the right elements for cover songs.

Having said that, the Yahoo BIAB group has a huge collection of cover songs in their file archive... and in recent years, more of them contain real tracks styles. That would probably be the best place to start looking.

Hi bDog

There is also a Yahoo group where they do a lot of this.

Edited: Sorry...just seen Pats post where he said the same thing.
