My M-Audo interface will put 8 tracks either on 8 mono tracks or 4 stereo tracks. This depends on the drop down selection in Audio Prefs and whether the track being used is mono or stereo..
If I sync two of these cards together it doubles to 16 mono or 8 stereo.

RB will record as many as the interface and the system allow (up to the 48 track limit). It is designed to do just such things.

Recording drum kits with 6 or 8 mics is common for us.
Then we go back and track the guitars, bass and keyboards next run (usually another 7 ot 8 tracks), then vocals and solos on their own. Of course all this never happens in 3 takes, but we get the opportunity to capture lots of effort of guys playing together, and this seems to make a difference to the guys playing; they like playing with the band.. as opposed to doing their part separately. It saves time. As a studio guy I know a lot of that is because they are not going to solo/scrutinize their track. They listen to the mix. wink
