I was auditioning the style _CELAIRP.STY and am hearing what I would describe as a 'glitch' sound at the beginning of some of the measures on the string track (2457 Strings Rhythm CelticAir Ev 085). Is anyone else using that Realtrack and hearing something odd?

I am using the demo song chords for that style and the default tempo of 85 BPM.

It is as though there is some pitch shifting effect for a split second at the beginning of some of the measures but nothing consistent (i.e. not every Em chord, just sometimes, and not the same measure frome one chorus to the next producing the problem.

I like the 2457 track but it is distracting to hear these glitches.

Feedback welcome...

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

The best thing to do with this would be...

...freeze all the tracks and make a note of what bars the issue occurs in.

Once that is done, email the frozen BIAB file, along with your notes as to which bars are problematic, to...

support@pgmusic.com

From my experience, Support appreciate knowing about Realtrack issues.

All the best,
Noel

Will do. It was the demo song from the style (without any edits to anything), but I'd be happy to freeze it and send it to support.

I'm hoping it's a setup issue but the more I play with RT's the more I'm noticing a few glitches here and there especially on string RT's.

Any other forum readers noticing this?

I can only assume what I talk about below are the ‘glitches’ you are talking about:

I noticed 2 things.

1. The default string track loaded in the demo song is 2058, which is a Midi Super Track and not a RealTrack.

2. When I substituted RealTrack #2457 for #2058, I did hear 'glitches' as the chords changed during playback

As an experiment, I exported both the Midi Super Track and the RealTrack substitution out of BIAB by dragging those tracks to the DAW box as WAV files.

I then loaded each of the exported wave files into my DAW so I could see the WAV tracks and I found 8 gaps in the RealTrack wave file where the chords did change. The gaps are small but noticeable to the ear.

The gaps, as I found them in my DAW, were are the following time locations (in MIN:SEC: and tenth's hundredth’s and thousandth's of a second.

0:14.060
0:28.200
0:50.800
1:10.54
1:36.040
1:41.580
2:09.920
2:15.480

The Midi Super Track track however, was clean with no gaps at all throughout the playback.

My assumption is that since the Midi Super Track track is all electronic, it can be made as clean as possible. However, since the RealTracks are actual recordings of musicians playing, the nuances of their playing can show up. As a Bluegrass musician, I see quite a few fiddle players and when they play with their instruments using the bow, heck yeah there are gaps in the fiddle sound between chords. That is normal. This is only my opinion of course.

Chris,

The reason for freezing the track and for sending accompanying notes is that when Support open the file and then generate it, they will hear exactly what you hear.

The freezing stops BIAB from generating a whole new track and one that does not have the same problems.

Regards,
Noel

Hi jcland,

My system config must be different somehow because when I load the default song for _CELAIRP.STY there is no reference to 2058 on any of my tracks. Strange...

I'm not hearing 'gaps' per se, but what I'd have to describe as brief pitch shifting at the very beginning of some measures (almost a grace note type of articulation that always starts higher than the target sustain note).

Anyway, I froze and sent the song with the glitches I'm hearing to support so maybe they can direct me further.

In the interim I found another RealTrack (2335) that sounds good too (no pitch shifting) so all is well.

Thanks for the feedback.

Something strange is going on here Chris.

Do me a favor, do this and let me know what shows up on your end.

Go to your style picker and pick the _CELAIRP.STY style. It should be under Rock Realstyles and also shows up under World/Ethnic.

If you highlight that style in StylePicker, I am curious on what you show in the right side memo.

Here is what I show in my window. It shows that it contains Midi SuperTrack (ST2058) as the default.

I am wondering why you have RealTrack 2457 loading instead.

That does not seem right.

_CELAIRP.STY. CelticAir Pno,Strgs,AcGuit[85RS]
Real and MIDI SuperTracks. Trio.
RT2365: Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm CelticAir Ev 085 , Miles Black
RT1814: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking CelticAir Ev 085 , Quinn Bachand
MIDI ST2058: Strings, Rhythm CelticAir Ev 085 , Miles Black

Hi jcland,

Definitely some differences between what you are seeing and what I get.

1. on my system _CELAIRP shows up under "RT213 Pop Piano & Str"

2. I do not show _CELAIRP under Rock (anything) or under World/Ethnic

3. On my system the memo in the Select Style dialog says:

_CELAIRP.STY. CelticAir Pno,Strgs,AcGuit[85RS]
All RealTracks. Trio.
RT2365: Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm CelticAir Ev 085 , Miles Black
RT1814: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking CelticAir Ev 085 , Quinn Bachand
RT2457: Strings, Rhythm CelticAir Ev 085 , Miles Black

Not sure why things are different between our systems. Strange...

Let me know if there is another file/setting you want me to check.

Check the build of your BIAB. I am on build 414 of version 2015. Each time they do an upgrade, it forces a rebuild of the style list.

As a test I just did the following:

1. I downloaded patch 414 again.
2. I moved all of my *.ls3 files, if they existed, my bbw.lst file and all of my *.lsw files to a different location so they were not in my C:\bb directory. That way there was nothing to interfere with the rebuilding of the styles list in step 4.
3. I installed the patch and started BIAB. That way it installed a brand new copy of my bbw.lst file in the C:\bb directory.
4. I clicked on Style Picker and it prompted me to rebuild the list.

After that was done, I again check what showed up in the left side window and this is what I got.

_CELAIRP.STY. CelticAir Pno,Strgs,AcGuit[85RS]
Real and MIDI SuperTracks. Trio.
RT2365: Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm CelticAir Ev 085 , Miles Black
RT1814: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking CelticAir Ev 085 , Quinn Bachand
MIDI ST2058: Strings, Rhythm CelticAir Ev 085 , Miles Black

Again I am showing ST2058 as before.

This is not a big deal but I certainly would like to know why yours is showing up different.

Anyone else reading this topic, what are you showing out of curiosity for this style.

That must be it. I haven't applied 414 on my system. I guess for some reason the style was tweaked in 414 to not use 2457 (a RealTrack) anymore and instead use 2058 (a MIDI SuperTrack).

Dunno why such a change would be necessary, unless the thought was that the RealTrack didn't fit the style. Or maybe the glitch I'm hearing has something to do with it. Curious...

Sorry to make you chase that. Can you load 2457 in a compatible style and see what you hear?

Thanks,
Chris
