What happened to the SoundCloud icon/button?

Okay, so I now see that the function is found in the 'File' drop-down menu as two menu items:
Send song to SoundCloud.com as file type .m4a
Send song to SoundCloud.com as (wav, wma, mp3, mp4, m4a)
As far as I can remember, one previously did not get asked about the type of file that was to be sent. What was it?
I am now wondering what considerations would lead to the choice of file type. I just want to post a BIAB file for people to hear on SoundCloud. Are the differences in sound quality, size of file and therefore the time it takes to get lodged? What? How do I decide?
Just in passing, I note that .m4a file is covered in both menu items. Is there a reason for that?

Graham,
If quality is a consideration, send the song to Soundcloud as a WAV. Whatever format you send, Soundcloud will run it through their compression engine in preparation for streaming. If you send mp3, wma, etc., it will end up getting double compressed and this could produce audio artifacts.
By sending a wav, the file only gets compressed once. The downside is that a wav file is around 10 times larger than wma/mp3.

Hi Noel,
Thanks for the info. The problem is that I have twice prepared wav files using the specific SoundCloud Menu Item in BIAB and it they ended up as discordant rubbish on SoundCloud. I deleted both of them in case someone thought I really had prepared a file like they sounded. I'm not kidding when I say discordant! I had two trombones playing in perfect harmony in the file and it sounded like they were playing two different tunes in two different keys. In fact it sounded like all the instruments were in different keys.
I am wondering if anyone else has tried the upload process recently and had better success than I did?

Graham,
I have never used the upload option from within BIAB. I prefer to (1) create my WAV and then, as a separate event, (2) I log into Soundcloud and upload it from the dashboard within Soundcloud.
Regards, Noel

I'll give that a try. I have done it before with non-BIAB files. At least I will be able to tell where the problem is occurring. Presently, I think it may be before it goes through any of the processes at SoundCloud because I listened to the wav files that had been created in BIAB and they were pretty bad. I think the compression processes then made them worse.

And by the way, the first "Send to SoundCloud" menu item is to easily select the most recently selected file type. The second one is to select a different file type from what you previously used.
Personally, I wish there were just one menu item, with the previously selected or default file type pre-entered into the selection box, and I can change from there if needed.

I finally managed to get the file up in SoundCloud and discovered in so doing that the creation of a discordant file was nothing to do with either of the two BIAB menu items "Send song to SoundCloud" or the compression by SoundCloud. It actually had something to do with trying to create a RealTrack solo in the middle chorus. Even though I managed to recreate the problem, I still do not know exactly what it is that is going wrong. It just sounds like every track is in a different key. It sounds okay while you are making the solo but when you save it, the corruption occurs. However, using the 'File' menu item "Send to SoundCloud.com as .wma" worked very well. Being smaller than the original .wav file I used, the processing was much quicker and it sounds okay: http://soundcloud.com/grah-bonejazzIt is the song called "Two Sleepy Trombones In A Lagoon". Now I'll have to work out what went wrong with creating that extra solo track. Probably some wrong instruction I gave Ian McDougall about creating that middle chorus.
