After rebalancing the mixer volumes several tunes and realizing that I had done the same thing last time I played the file, I am now sure that the mixer volume settings do not lock in when you save them. When you open the file the next time, the volumes have all gone back to the same setting of 90. Very frustrating.

Is there some new function, or an old one I did not know about, that says whether the mixer settings should be saved as they are? Mind you, I can't picture a situation where I would not require the mixer settings to stay at the levels I put them. crazy

Graham,

The volume/pan settings save for me. I'm not quite sure what is happening on your system. You could try the following, though. Simply work your way through the 1, 2, 3 on the below image.

Could you tell us a little more about your situation ...

1. Do you use an external synthesiser?

2. Is there a midi file loaded for the song in question?

Regards,
Noel

Hi Graham

Exactly like Noel has mentioned, I use the Save Song With Patches option. It does save the mixer settings for me, but a normal save doesn't.

Took me a while to find that. Frankly, the mixer settings should save with the song, and not require a special save option.

Hope this helps

Trevor

Hello Graham,

Volume, panning, reverb, and tone settings should all be saving with individual songs in Band-in-a-Box. It is possible that your override settings were changed. Override settings allow you to ignore settings saved in songs, and retain global settings instead.

You can access your override settings by clicking on the "Song Settings" button. From the Song Settings dialog, click on "Overrides" in the bottom left. From the Overrides dialog you can either click "Default" to revert to default settings, or manage the settings individually.

If you wish to do it manually, please make sure there are check marks beside "Allow loading of any these settings" and "Volume". In fact, by default, all of the items in this dialog before "Force to Simple Arrangement" should be checked. You will want to leave all of the simple settings unchecked unless you want all of your songs to play a simple arrangement.

You should not have to save your songs with patches and harmony if the override settings are correct.

Thanks everyone. I had been experiencing random problems with BIAB 2015. Certainly the two I reported on the forum have now cured themselves. Or maybe it was my many checks of Preferences that helped, although I do not think I changed anything of significance from previous BIAB version settings.

Noel, I had already checked those settings several times and they were indeed set the way you said they should be. I guess the only difference with me is that I did not use the 'Save As' button because I tend to favour Menus and had been using the 'File' 'Save Song with Patches & Harmony' pull down menu item. But they both lead to the 'Assign Instruments and Harmonies to Song' box. Jareth raises an interesting point about us not needing to use that particular save method if the override settings are correct.

Jareth, I did have my 'Overrides' settings as you recommend and the only changes I had made were to tick the box for 'Strings Tracks Simple' and 'Always set loops to OFF'. The latter because of another annoying problem I had with every song repeating and being unable to stop that until I sought help on this forum.

I suppose it is possible that I had changed something in one of the screens that affected the ability to save the volumes but my many checks did not reveal anything. I should mention that I do make a lot of changes to individual tracks, such as different entries for 'Insert Section Text' to Bass, Piano, Drums, Guitar, Strings, Melody and Soloist. And a lot of swapping harmonies and inserting notation marks. I really push BIAB to create and then get decent printouts of notation for all the instruments in my band.

The other possibility is that a computer problems I am experiencing with downloading Windows updates (Specifically an IE 11 x64 bit update), could have caused a saving malfunction in BIAB. I have also experienced some random saving problems with programs such as Microsoft Word.

Anyway, BIAB is working fine right now! Now all I need to do is solve the Windows problem. I hope.

Thanks again.
