I like both versions too.. and I can see why you were looking for the arpeggiated instrumentation. But here are a couple of reasons why I prefer the original:

1) The arpeggiated thing has been done so many times it's hard to make it sound new, even when its wrapped in a clever new song like yours.

2) Your first go-round is unique to you. And I like the sparse arrangement with the prominent snare and background organ. It's more of a gutsy bluesy sound that matches the theme of your song without sounding like something that's been done before. Since you have such a signature sound, I almost hate to hear you venture into familiar territory... you're too good at being unique to bother with anything ordinary.

having said that, the second version is more lush and R&B whereas the first version was more sparse and bluesy.

I'd kind of like to hear horns in the 2nd version since you opted to take it in a more orchestrated direction. Or not. Both versions are great!

Have listened to both versions... The first version wins for me
Voice and guitar are of course outstanding in both versions, but the second "orchestra" gets predictable after a while.

maybe the addition of horns would break it up a bit
