I listened to both versions and think the first version fits the vibe and matches your lyrics best. I agree with others who've mentioned a Platters, Drifters feel about the second version and that vibe sort of disconnects with the lyrics.

Both versions match your vocals superbly and can stand on their own as separate songs. I suggest you make them separate songs. The Drifters produced a whole suite of songs of similar themes and used the same chord progressions.

Examining your lyrics, it should not take but a few minutes to sober up your main character and refocus him on the walk home in the cold rain. Think in terms that Country music likes stoned drunks, regardless of the reason and the Drifters and Platters were all about love.
