What we are debating here is semantics. You are correct about the proper place for Mastering effects. If this was Jeff's intention the only thing I fault is his choice of terminology. For us old guys used to hardware consoles an "insert" is never post fader. This being a software mixer it is indeed nice to be able to have effects post fader in the program otherwise how would you do it? Rewire!
