I would guess the actual attendance of an event like this would be well below the threshold needed to consider it a success. I know everyone's definition of success is different but I am thinking of what it would cost and how much would I learn or how much fun would I have. On the learning side I cannot really imagine I'd get more out of it than using the program, reading the manual and asking questions here on the forum. On the fun side, unless you have a lot of extra money I personally have a whole lot of places to see with my limited funds before I'd wanna see a PG convention for fun!  In planning an event like this you always have to deal with 3 kinds of people, 1) those who are die-hard fans and would travel to the ends of the earth to join their virtual tribe in the real world (this is typically a very small group) 2) those who think the idea sounds pretty good but who will almost always find something preferable to do instead when it comes right down to it 3) those who have no interest from the get go! My guess is the overall engaged user base is small enough that group #1 has only a few members and not enough to make an event like this happen.

1) those who are die-hard fans and would travel to the ends of the earth to join their virtual tribe in the real world (this is typically a very small group)
2) those who think the idea sounds pretty good but who will almost always find something preferable to do instead when it comes right down to it
3) those who have no interest from the get go!
My guess is the overall engaged user base is small enough that group #1 has only a few members and not enough to make an event like this happen.
I may have misspoken by using Disneyland as an example and inferring there was nothing to be learned from a PG Music Convention. Because in truth that is just nonsense. There is much to learn from bringing the information on these forums to life. Still, I would sure be interested in hearing from groups #1 and 2 as identified above by JohnJohnJohn. In the meantime you should know I received a response directly from Peter Gannon. He likes the idea...a lot. PG Music marketing folks are looking at possibilities and they will get back to us soon. So I am asking the question again. 1)Does the fact that PG Music has shown an interest change any perspectives as to how this could work? And, 2) How many #1 people are out there, and how many #2 people can be better motivated? And, 3) How many minds in the #3 group might be changed once things start happening? Don't understand me wrong, I'm in favor of such a convention. If it is in Canada, I just have other priorities to spend money and time. I'm a square dance caller and I have been to the Callerlab Convention twice. While it is fun to attend such a convention and talk to people with the same interests, it is expensive to go there. And flying such long legs is not entertaining, especially when you travel to the east. A two hour flight is o.k. but twelve hours is too long. 1. This endeavour could work if such a convention travels across the world. 2. As I said, if it is a one day event, I don't necessarily don't want to be in a position that I must spend the night. I might choose to do so. 3. Make it available to everybody so even a Don Gaynor may be able to visit that convention -- not each year, but every now and then. Make that mini conventions all around the world in large music stores or as I said before, using participants ressources. I'm sure there are some that have a large meeting room and two or three smaller rooms available (churches, schools, their company). Have a major topic and two or three minor ones and an expert available. These will be a success. Especially when the marketing machine gets the word out that not only geeks are welcome but also those who fight with themselves to buy the program. Besides that, Don is right: You have a nice web site -- and I find, an interesting voice.
