Enter the following chord sequence : /C… /C.d /, that is one bar of hold chord followed by one bar of rest all except drums.
In this case, the Strings don't mute during the rest bar and they continue to sound.
Solution : Add one option to force the hold Strings to mute during rest bars when they have been triggered on the precedent bar.

Which style are you using and which [legacy] track is the strings part on? RealTracks or MIDI? Do the other instruments (except the drums) rest in that second bar?

Need more information to see if this is reproducible behavior.

I'm guessing this is MIDI strings hanging over, and the trick is to make a musical cutoff at that next measure. But yes, as John says, please provide some specifics so we can test first.

Probably you did not read the title of the post : yes it is for MIDI styles only.
Take any MIDI style having Strings part, for example : Yestrday.sty.
All instruments don't mute during the second bar. But it is not a problem for instruments like Piano or Guitar or Vibes for example, because the sounds decreases fast enough.
The problem is mainly for instruments like Strings or Pad because there is no decay enveloppe. Also for basses because the often have a long decay time.

It's a very interesting observation that these instruments carry over into a rested bar. I had not noticed that.

Of course I read the post title, which is why I said the problem is to make a 'musical' cutoff.

PG Music must have decided that a faded bass, pad or strings is better than a clipped one when the chord says to rest those instruments. I wonder if (perhaps as an option) they could make the "rest instruments" command do a fast fade on each of those rested instruments? Would that be more 'musical' sounding and less harsh than the Mute (sending a MIDI Off) that I think you are suggesting? Just a thought.

Do you have anything unusual in this song? Are you using Sampletank or other software instrument for the strings? Are you sure BIAB is OK (Return to Factory Settings)?

EDIT: Nevermind all this - see next post please.

This is a feature, not a bug.

When you use the single period with the intent to cut off an instrument, it must be a different chord than the held chord preceding it.

I recall this coming up nearly twenty years ago. Not sure if it's documented anywhere.

Try your test again but with D. in the second bar, and not C. and you will see it works to cut off the strings etc. All you have to do is change the chord. As it is rested, it doesn't matter what chord you choose since you won't hear it. However, if you want the instruments to hold through, use the same chord as the preceding one.

Note that you can keep the same root if you like, as long as the chord is different somehow. For example, hold a CMaj7 chord, then put C. in the next bar and it will stop the strings.

This is what we had to do to get endings to cut off properly (using a different chord), but I didn't realize it did this mid-song. I'll take a look at it this evening.

Also, I wonder if this is also related to the relatively new feature that keeps string-type instruments playing through the bar (no cutoff at the end of the bar for any common notes, even if the chord changes), which allows for long pads with no breaks (I can't remember if this is optional, but will take a look at that feature as well).

Just tried this, too, and it does exactly what was explained.

I suspect that (even though a "feature") this is related to why holds in the ending don't cut off when the rest chord is the same as the hold chord.

It seems that this should be fixed, or at least provided as an option.
