Playing falls (1x down slide) is a staple of big band music. Is it technically feasible to play something like my 90 bpm sample (4 quick slides instead, kinda like turntable scratching) ? WAV Sample (please click) Thank you for all replies in advance

Are you asking if a real brass player can play this? If so, the answer is, sorta.
There are three sounds in your file. None are of a fall.
The first is a straight sfortzando attack and decay, no problem.
The second is apparently a clip reversed, so no, I can't make that sound on a horn. I think if you were really set on it, I would ask the next player to knock my horn, and that would probably sound about right, and pretty awful. In fact, it would be so awful that it wouldn't matter what the rest of the guys in the brass section played.
The third sound is a pretty normal attack, again, no problem.
If you are thanking me in advance for a reply, you're welcome. If you are thanking me for a reply in advance, I'm already too late...
But somehow I don't think this is about a "brass section playing a trill", is it? What am I missing?

Hello Matt,
The "second sound" is not a reversed clip. It's a note pitch-bent up-down-up-down roughly 2 octaves. Really fast slides, basically.
Hence my mentioning of big band falls, which seem to be slides too, just slower and one way. So the gist of my question is, instead of a classic fall, could a section play slides yoyoing up and down fast (as the second sound in the sample) sounding sharp, unison.

Very interesting. So this seriously is about brass playing. Well, that sound in the middle is not something I would like doing. I guarantee if a section did it together, it would s**k big time. I would certainly leave the studio asking, "Why"?
I'm not trying to be flip. I just cannot envision any pro section I ever played in making that sound.
To quote John McEnroe, "You cannot be serious!".
But I'll stay with this if you like. Now, Ed Buckley on this forum has great classical chops as well as jazz. I've played with orchestras but I'm much more of a jazz and show guy. I'd like to get his take, not because an orchestra would make that sound, but because he should have the control to do it better than I would. Maybe.

ps on any wind instrument, falling off in pitch is far easier than rising. Doing either fast is a problem. Doing it fast down and up in a section is my idea of a nightmare.

It was with interest that I listened to the samples (many times), and formed the conclusion that the middle clip was probably reversed. Then I move on to read the other posts. Such phonics are indeed rare, and rather less useful?

OK, I'll can this idea.
I had doubts about it from the outset, that's why I inquired. Its main appeal was that if it turns out that a brass section can copy (and rework?) the rhytms of turntable scratch artists, this could add lots of new interesting rhytmic zings to the palette. OK, back to the good old falls and doiks, then :-)

I always wondered if a brass midi'd could play through a wah wah pedal like the guitar pedal solo on Chicago 25 or 6 to 4. What would that sound like?
RIP Terry Kath The world lost a great guitarist with his passing.
There are some really interesting Brass mixes people should post the ones they know about.

It sounds quite interesting. I found it distracting to use but a wah wah pedal works fine with brass.
