Have you tried a different burner program? I don't use any of the default burners in the PG stuff, or the computer. I have Roxio and use it. It works well but it's not a free program.

If the internal optical writer has died but it still plays disks, just pick up an external CD/DVD writer. They are very inexpensive. No need to tear into the heart of the computer to replace it. I think I picked one up for $20 or $30 and that was several years back.... my daughters used it more than me. They used it for watching DVD movies. Simply plug it in via USB and load the drivers and you're ready to roll... or burn... Since my daughters are now grown and out of this house, the external burner is connected to my DAW and ready to burn or read disks as I require.
