Hi There,
In regards to the rendering process, my wav files won't burn to my cd-r's. I did the easy rendering process of clicking on the wav file button>export song to wav. I saved it, but it wont burn. I had no problems burning cd-r's before this happened. I thought maybe it was because I had a bad bunch of cd-rs, so I tried a different brand of cd-rs and it still wont burn. I stumped. This should be a simple process, but turning into a bigger headache. Has this ever happened to you? Any suggestions? I appreciate any help.

Are they AUDIO CD's or data CD's?
I have had problems burning waves to data CD's in the past.
I asked a computer guy I knew and he recommended getting the Audio specific disks....and they worked just fine. He explained that there's something in how they make the disks or some other mumbo-jumbo that sometimes the data disks work just fine for music and sometimes they don't....all I know is I now use audio CD's and there's no problems.

I have had problems burning waves to data CD's in the past.
I asked a computer guy I knew and he recommended getting the Audio specific disks....and they worked just fine. He explained that there's something in how they make the disks or some other mumbo-jumbo that sometimes the data disks work just fine for music and sometimes they don't....all I know is I now use audio CD's and there's no problems. Herb, audio CDs are silver on the recording side. Music CD players like silver. Some data CDs are other colors and many don't play on some CD players. Been there - done that.

Shannon, are they not burning or are the burning and not playing? There is a big difference here.
If they are not burning then maybe either your burning program isn't working properly or your CD burner is dead. Have you tried burning a data CD? Or some other songs?
If they are burning but not playing make sure you are using the right CD specs, i.e. 44.1kHz - 16 bit. Also make sure the file is less then 4 GB, although I doubt this is the problem, unless it is one long song. Also if there is more than a second or two of blank space at the start of every song then they will not play as the player thinks there is nothing there.
I hope this helps.

If it was the burning program, where specifically would I locate that information? Would I look by right-clicking on song and hit properties?

CD-Rs are not burning at all. When I start to burn, it starts up and then after a few seconds, it says "cancelling" and then the burn stops.
I am asking about the burning program b/c I just checked the cdrom itself and it was working properly, it said. I have not burn a data cd for a long time and I (sheepishly) dont know what I need to burn on the data cd to test it. Any suggestions?

Just to clarify, you're using the PG Music MiniBurn program inside BiaB, and not an external burn program? You could try an external program, one like cdrtfe cdrtfe is an open source CD/DVD/BD burning application for Microsoft Windows. You can burn data discs, Audio CDs, XCDs, (S)VCDs and DVD-Video discs. Maybe try an external burner see if that makes a difference?

VideoTrack beat me to the punch. I export a tracks from Sonar to 44.1kHz x 16 bit wavs then burn them to a CD using CDBurnerXP, another free one : http://cdburnerxp.se/index.phpDon't let the name fool you, it works in Win 7 and possibly in Win 8 and 8.1.

Thanks for the suggestions Videotrack and MarioD. I feel kind of silly to ask this question, but I thought burner came with the computer, like windows 7 computer, so why I get another burner if I already have one?
Videotrack, I went through the rendering video (biab) and the guy said the easiest way to rendering wav button> export song to wav and save it that way, then burn. I just been trying to burn on win media player as it has a burner capability. The guy in the video said that there is another way to render , but it is more complex. He said to go into rendering option dialog box. Do u know what I am talking about? If yes, I tried to render with the dialog box with more option and I got pretty lost, but I did notice the miniburner (what you mentioned above) was there (i did see it). In conclusion, I just stay simple and took the easy method of rendering. So do I have to use the miniburner method or can i stay with my win media player and burner?

So do I have to use the miniburner method or can i stay with my win media player and burner? You should be able to use whatever burner you are comfortable with. The one Mario suggested should be fine if you don't have one already. BTW: your DVD/CD Optical Drive does have Write capability? i.e. you have used this drive to burn a CD previously?

So...there are a few possibilites for that error.
I ask a few questions to narrow it down. Maybe you did one or the other already, but I wasn't sitting by your side and don't know. You also may change the order of these questions to your liking.
1. Does the CD-Writer hardware play back audio CDs?
2. Can you access files on data CDs?
3. If "No" Is the driver software up to date? Sometimes a new update of the operating system requires updating hardware drivers.
4. Can you write using other burning software?
5. If still "No" check the hardware: are all cables from the CD-writer to the mainboard inside the computer connected? They shouldn't com loose, but...they could have a defective contact a 1 in 1 with many zeros error probability.
6. Replace the Writer. A new multi media writer costs about 20 to 30 Dollars replacing the old one takes about 10 to 15 minutes -- even if it's your first time you crawl into a computer. There are about four screws and two or three cables. If you are not familiar with that technology, take the old CD-writer out of the computer and take it with you, when you buy a new one. Make sure you get one that has the same connectors. Install it, both hardware and accompanying software.
At first you could leave all the cables where they are and just put in the writer itself and connect it with the cables. But replacing cables usually doesn't hurt
7. If still "No", then the main board might have experienced a stroke...

Have you tried a different burner program? I don't use any of the default burners in the PG stuff, or the computer. I have Roxio and use it. It works well but it's not a free program.
If the internal optical writer has died but it still plays disks, just pick up an external CD/DVD writer. They are very inexpensive. No need to tear into the heart of the computer to replace it. I think I picked one up for $20 or $30 and that was several years back.... my daughters used it more than me. They used it for watching DVD movies. Simply plug it in via USB and load the drivers and you're ready to roll... or burn... Since my daughters are now grown and out of this house, the external burner is connected to my DAW and ready to burn or read disks as I require.

Before you buy anything I would make sure that the wav specs are 44.1 kHz x 16 bit and that the wavs do not have a lot of silence prior to the song. I have been caught on these before.
Also I have found that the Window's Media Player is about the worst burner that I have ever tried. YMMV.
If possible can you burn the wav(s) on another computer, maybe at a library? That way you can determine if your burner has bit the dust. If not put a couple up here via dropbox and/or send them to me and I'll see if I can burn them.

I have alot to read here, but I really need this question answered about data disc. The reason being is, I may have some here with me that I used a long time ago, but its been so long of not using data disc, that I dont know what to look for on the front of the disc. Please help me determine if its a data disc. Would it say "data disc" on the front of the disc? Or is a dvd disc the same thing as a data disc?

If it is a music CD-R, it should say "CD-R Music". From my understanding, there is nothing significantly special with these disks other than:
- they are more expensive than regular CD-R's
- a portion of the selling price goes to RIAA (because it's intended purpose is to copy music CD's)
- they have something encoded on to them that says they are "music CD-R's", as some dedicating disk duplicating units won't let you copy a commercial CD unless you use a music CD-R
- just like any other CD, some brands will work well with your computer's CD burner, some won't
I created audio CD's using standard CD-R's all the time and never have a problem. I generally use either Maxell, TDK, Sony, or Memorex (all name brands, but mainly because it's what Costco carries). I occasionally have a problem with a disk or two, but usually everything burns well. I no longer put disk stickers on them, but do write what's on them with a Sharpie.
For data CD's (not audio CD's), I have mostly switched over to saving to DVD's, since they hold so much more and cost about the same as the CD's.

Thank you for all your questions! Before I start diving into your questions though, I have not tried the "render to audio file" dialog box method yet. I feel the guy on the biab video doesnt explain this render to audio file method well. I had questions after I watched it.
So, my intention is to take songs, using the render to audio file method. If I have to add 1 song each time, thats what I will do, but end result, I have tons of biab songs I would like to render with render to audio file method and put them on a cd. I know there is a way to add songs onto the burn list but im not sure to do that. The video guy lost me when he said to go to "dxi rendering" because the written instruction on the biab rendering help, its says to click on the "burn to audio disc". Which is it? Burn to audio cd" or "dxi-direct render"? So, I didnt know what to choose and if I chose wrong, I was concerned I would waste, yet, ANOTHER blank cd. So can someone give me step-by-step render to audio file method instructions? I know I maybe asking alot here, but the biab written and video are not on t he same page and its confusing.
FYI-Previously I have been trying to burn through the "wav" button>export song to wav". Currently, I want to try the "burn" icon>render to audio file method.
Thanks everyone for all your help and believe me, I will try your suggestions after I positively am sure my burner doesnt burn cds any longer.
