Inspired Instruments, the same folks that created the YRG1000 You Rock midi guitar / game controller a few years ago, announced a new midi guitar, the Lineage. This has actually been a long time in the making. Inspired had a successful Kickstarter campaign to develop a full size, wooden body midi guitar in 2012. A black prototype was shown at the 2013 Music Messe. Black, white and gold prototypes were displayed at the 2015 NAMM show. A link to the website is ++ HERE ++ The Generation 2 YRG1000 retails for about $350. The Lineage can be preordered for $899, ouch!

$899 isn't a bad price.Ztars, http://www.starrlabs.com/in-stock/start at $2500 and Roland's stuff is also expensive. It's all relative I recon.

This is just my means/methods no pushing this over that - different strokes I guess. I have a MIM Roland Ready Strat (now aka Roland GK Ready), put some Bill Lawrence Noiseless PUPS on it and love it. But I didn’t pay anywhere near current asking prices (of around $899 which you will see is same price as the YRG Lineage!). I use through my original GR-50 (acting only as my GI- 20 interface now. Although the sounds [D110 based] are really nostalgic). I paid around $450 NEW for that guitar a decade ago. Prior to that I used the GR-50 supplied GK 2 interface on my Strats, sold the GK2 when I purchased the RR Strat. I have the Fishman Triple play and I really like it so far - got it last summer. The only drawback: the need to turn on the PC to use it. The Triple Play can be had for around $400 - and it WORKS very well. http://www.gizmag.com/review-fishman-tripleplay/32356/Easy to install on Strat's. Can put it on my Gibson LP's, ES-335, archtops and acoustics (obviously not nylon string guitars) but can't get it to fit Gibson SG. And nothing is permanently altered - no harm to guitar. It is fast becoming my favorite "guitar to MIDI" method when using or needing the PC on anyway. Now if I could just bypass (on demand) the need for a PC. Maybe someone will come up with a USB standalone interface box: USB in to 5 PIN DIN MIDI out with "native Fishman SW - Yes LOTS of kinks to work out: how to host the Fishman SW without a PC OS, maybe hook-up to PC to initially setup and calibrate, etc.) I have a YRG Gen 2, bought when CHEAP (LESS than $200 on sale), I also have the new larger (aka "radius") neck. The YRG is a fun to play, not too unlike a real guitar in terms of picking and fretting. Yes, it has a toy like whammy and I DO HATE IT, it has plastic knobs that remind you it was built as a game controller, also no fret/string vibrato and no literal string bends, and the body shape is too small for sitting and playing on knee properly (I'm a very big guy). But I DO USE the YRG. Lots of nights I sit with head phones on and practice scale fingerings, string finger picking and have done serious rhythm/melody input to PC SW, in real time - no issues. Also if you are NEW to MIDI guitar you have a lot fewer issues with false triggers then the clean precise playing REQUIRED by a hex PUP equipped guitar to MIDI solution demands. Having said that I WILL NOT be buying the YRG Lineage price is too high IMO. Finally, I have Jam Origins MIDI guitar SW (audio to MIDI ). I got it on a whim to see how well it performs - it's pretty good. It is the least expensive way to get into using "guitar to MIDI" for BOTH OS's (WIN and MAC). http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may14/articles/midi-guitar.htmNote, IMHO the latency is not as good as above methods, it is "not unusable" just not as "fast" as alluded to in article. You can even try before buy. Larry

Hi Larry, I have an old Casio strat MIDI controller that I use. It goes directly into either a hard synth or a computer. However I am interested in the Fishman. I thought that it was a direct MIDI controller not need anything else. Is this so? Or does it need proprietary software to run soft synths? If it is a direct MIDI output then a usb to 5 pin MIDI adaptor like these: http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/usb-adapter-5-pin-midi.htmlalong with a usb male to male adaptor like these: http://www.showmecables.com/category/USB-Adapters.aspx?q=&pg=1&ps=25&fq={attr_gender1_sm:Male-Male}&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=%28roi%29+usb+connectors+%26+adapters&utm_content=usb+adapter+male+to+male&utm_term=%2Busb%20%2Badapter%20%2Bmale%20%2Bto%20%2Bmale&utm_creative=b might work for you. Keep me posted. Thanx MarioD edit - you may have to google/bing usb male to male adaptors to view them.

(DID I/WE just hi jack this thread?) Short answer - you need a PC (or MAC) for the Fishman Triple Play. It is a USB Plug and Play device, no additional drivers needed EXCEPT that supplied by the OS itself! So doubt it works sans OS. As soon as you plug in the USB thumb receiver into PC a "Triple Play" MIDI I/O device shows up like any other MIDI I/O port on the PC (like my MIDISport 2x2, FW 410 MIDI I/O port, LoopBe 30, etc.) You DO NOT need to install anything else. However, to set string sensitivity, pitch bend range, tuning, etc. - you need to install the supplied SW. Here the SW is what came with it LAST summer: SampleTank 2.5 XT (not the free ST 2), Komplete Elements MK2, PreSonus Progression, and Studio One 2 (aka free Studio one lite), and the Triple Play SW itself. The supplied "Triple Play" SW (both 32 and 64 bit supplied), besides being an interface to overall device settings, s Fishman's version of a interface/mixer for the device (stand alone as it were) for up to four of YOUR VSTi plugins (plus what it comes with); your guitar audio (but up to you to get the actual guitar analog signal into the PC - however you already do it); and dedicated VI "pedal" (used mainly for sustain) input mixer channel. see page 20 of user guide http://www.fishman.com/software/tripleplay/download/tripleplay_user_guide.pdfhttp://www.fishman.com/software/tripleplay/download/tripleplay_swguide_pc.pdfhttp://www.fishman.com/software/tripleplay/download/tripleplay_hwguide.pdfhttp://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug14/articles/fishman-tripleplay.htmI do not use the supplied Triple Play SW much, it's fun to play with but.... I just plug in the USB thumb drive and play my guitar into PT, RB, Sonar, etc. like any other external controller. BTW I KEEP the SMALL supplied receiver (RX) "thumb drive" Velcroed to the Triple Play transmitter (TX) on guitar (soft material on the TX unit) and the "hook" part on the RX thumb drive. It costs money to replace that little bugger. Larry

I'm not trying to hijack this post...but I'm listening to Pat right now, playing 'Are You Going With Me', on "our" Roland G-300 guitars...it's one helliva experience for me to see him perform with it, whilst I can glance over to my very own...the one I've owned since the early eighties...I could sit and listen to Pat play forever...and I might just get the chance some day, if I continue to stay a good "boy"!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YceTf55lXPI
