I haven't tried using an external sound module, but I can definitely run BIAB version 8 (my first BIAB) under VMware in a Windows XP 32-bit virtual machine. I've also gotten version 9, 10, and 11 installed in that environment (working my way through all of them, but it takes time).

VirtualBox has very similar features to VMware, so I would think you could do it in VirtualBox.

Is there a specific reason you need to run it in Windows 98 specifically? Version 10 should run in a Windows XP environment. The installer for version 10 is 16-bit, however, so it will not run in Vista or later.
