Hi Forum,
Is anyone familiar with a good music video editing software that is reasonably user friendly? I recently did a music video using my iPhone 6 plus. The camera on this device is excellent, and while the audio of me and the pianist is pretty good, some of the facial contortions I make while "emoting" makes it difficult to watch, at least in my opinion which of course counts. What I want to do is freeze frame the video and let the audio play throughout. Any of you experts know how I can approach this?

Hello Carolyne,

I make my own music video using adobe premiere and also movie maker for windows. If you use Mac, i think you can use iVideo...

Freeze frame video and the music still on, yes you can use those software (adobe premiere, movie maker or iVideo)...

For pro software you can use AVS movie maker...Hope that help

Danu,

my 2 cents: windows movie maker is MUCH more user friendly than Adobe Premiere, which I find to be totally UNintuitive.

Plus, if you want freeze frame, Adobe Premiere is way overkill... windows movie maker can do that just fine.

Hmmm, think I have some version of Microsoft Movie Maker. I'll go back to the drawing board. Thanks to all for the input, particularly the articles on shooting videos. As usual this forum is the best. If you can't find an answer here, it probably shouldn't be done.

here are a few tutorials on using windows movie maker. If you watch this and it makes sense, then you're all ready to make music videos since you probably already have windows movie maker

THIS TUTORIAL IS SPECIFICALLY ABOUT SLIDE SHOW CREATION

the following links are more about making and editing existing movies.

TUTORIAL 1
TUTORIAL 2
TUTORIAL 3

these videos are by different people because it has been my experience that some people explain things in ways I understand, while others don't. By picking 3 different presentations, I'm hoping one of them will present the information in a way that works for you.

If not, each of the videos will have plenty of related videos linked, and maybe you can find a good one in that group.

Hi Carolyne

I use Grass Valley Edius

I own and have used a number of other products including Adobe Premier, but Edius is my tool of choice.

Any good product with lots of features will have a learning curve. There is a great forum with lots of support.

One of the excellent features of Edius is that most things can be done in real-time, no need to render, and it supports just about every video codec ever produced.

Link to the Forum

You can definitely do what you want with Edius and most other products. Separate the video and Audio tracks onto different channels. Take a still of the frame you want, place it on a higher track and drag it to the length you require. It will replace the section of the video below it. Add a dissolve at the start and end for a better transition.
Wait... I'll be back...

OK, I'm back
Done in Edius in about 30 seconds:

I like some things that are free too, but 'free' is not necessarily and is hardly ever 'best'

Thanks everyone, I will start reviewing the tutorials tomorrow. Pretty bummed out tonight, worked on it all day to no avail. At the moment I'm not a friend of technology. The problem is separating the video from the audio recorded simultaneously on iPhone. What's driving me nuts is I can see the WAV form. The fact I can see it and not extract it doesn't make sense to me. Arrrgh!

Where'd I go?
Easy! To grab a screen capture of your avatar, start Edius, find a video clip I worked on recently (a very talented flautist by the name of Andria White) and place the still clip on a track above the other players which would replace the vision but keep the sound playing. Sorry I was away for so long (ha ha)

Might be more than you need to do, but that's the concept, no matter what editing program you use.

Cheers
Trevor

Hi Carolyn. My personal experience with video is that it is a very time consuming thing to learn how to do! So be prepared!

I use NCH Videopad. There is a free version but I have a sneaky suspicion that like all the NCH software they take away functionality over time until you eventually have to buy it. (I have bought my copy).
I did not find movie maker flexible enough for what I wanted to achieve. Have a look at my channel here.

Good luck

You should be able to do that in iMovie or even audacity it seems: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5776373 or http://appcrawlr.com/ios-apps/best-apps-extract-audio or ... maybe google "extracting audio from iphone video"

I didn't think audacity had vision capabilities(?)

Carolyne,

Personally, I don't use Movie Maker - like Joanne said it was too basic. She's also right that it's going to take some time to get your head around whatever you choose.

I 'bout wore myself out downloading free trials last year. I have three. All my videos since last year use either - Adobe PE11, Corel VS6 Ultimate or Cyberlink PD13 Ultra (just upgraded to PD13 - upgrade price I couldn't refuse. grin )

If I were planning on editing a lot of live from the club performances, I'd get PowerDirector 13 Ultra - it has multi camera editing which can make that much easier in the long run. It's also intuitive, easy to use for whatever else and you can try it for free as you can all of them.

Good luck and looking forward to your video!

Josie

PS. I don't have an iPhone but it seems with all those apps there should be something.....

For a quick no nonsense movie (rather like biab) put in your pictures or video, choose a style and it does the rest. I use this all the time as I don't want to spend time putting a video together. You do have a certain amount of editing ability, but not a lot, like move pictures about etc. what I like about it is that it brings movement to the pictures probably take hours to do with other programs.

I did this little video for my song with it in about 10 mins.

End of the world

There is a trial I believe.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
