Click on "Opt | Preferences | MIDI Driver" and open up the following dialogue box. Dan is referring to setting up #3 and #4 on the image below.



If you do not want to export the sound as a wav at any time, it's only necessary to set #1, #2. The GS Wavetable Synth should do the job for you.

A better sound set up is obtained by using the software VST/DXi synth that is set up by activating #3, #4. Click on the #4 button and a list of what soft synths are on your system will be available. It is a "General Midi" synth that's needed to do the job. Setting this up will also allow you to export the midi sounds as wav files.

If you have a 32-bit operating system, the VSC/DXi synth will work well. With a 64 bit operating system, you'll need to use Coyote WT (or Coyote Forte or TTS-1; these may not be on your system because they are purchased separately from PG Music for around $40 each). If Sampletank is present it will not work because it is not automatically a general midi synth.
