Further to my recent posts re recording I should liketo ask for the ability to have a count in before a loop.
It would be good if we could count in to a loop, record our instrument over a loop, loop around a number of takes, select the best take and use that

00, your record multiple takes over a loop wish is a DAW function and BiaB is not a DAW. This function can be easily accomplishes in Sonar and most likely in RB.
I'm not really knocking your suggestion just pointing out a fact.
My wife had her driving test today.
She got 8 out of 10.
The other 2 jumped out of the way!
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

You make some great posts Mario, but I respectfully disagree with you over this point. I think by the term DAW you mean "sequencer" as in Pro Tools, Cubase etc. Band in a box is a Sequencer in Some senses. It plays one asset of things, then the next and so forth, in a sequence. .I understand your poi8nt though, primarily it is "accompaniment software". For me this means playing a backing track to which an instrument can play along to. In second place for accompaniment software is the ability to record the player - along with the track. Legions of programs do this well including all those Yamaha PSRs and so forth |(though they are not as good in other areas). BIAB makes a rubbish job of this. Firstly you can't even hear your VST until the song starts, secondly you never get to see the track. Thirdly there is no ability to record different takes. How many people are always satisfied with their first take? How many people might wish to sb to be able to handle selecting 8 bars from the first and 8 from the second? For me I would assume any accompaniment software should handle recording well, a top line program like BIAB should do a way better job than it does - "period" as the USA says  IMO Z

I also respect your opinions and ideas. We just respectfully disagree with each other on how BiaB should proceed.
You do bring up some excellent points however everything that you wished for can, I believe, be accomplished in RB. So why not use that DAW or in your terminology sequencer?
This BiaB verses DAW has been brought up many times. There are two camps; one wants to keep BiaB as it is now while the other wants to blend BiaB with RB. Of course I am in the first camp.
I would like BiaB to go 64 bit and to open all 16 MIDI channels for our use; imagine having more than 5 MIDI or RT tracks at once! If they did that and added your suggestions at the same time then I would go for it.
Also BaiB confuses the issue by calling a part of it a sequencer. As we both know it isn't.

While the idea has merit, I kind of have to agree with Mario on this one.
BiaB does what it does extremely well, but it cannot do absolutely everything, especially when there are other tools already available to perform these other tasks.
I think BiaB should remain focused on what it does best, and simply use other tools to do other tasks that are not BiaB 'core' functions.

Yes Mario, I am in the blending camp, if I went to RB then I would loose BIAB functionality and like may I have a better sequencer.
So, both of you don't want the ability to record a single instrument improved in BIAB?
This surprises me.
Recording 'takes' seems a basic function for an accompaniment program to me.

Thanks for your observation, but my understanding is that Real Band is (more-or-less) Power Tracks Pro and Band In A Box merged together into a DAW.
So Real Band actually gives you most of the features of BiaB and reasonable DAW functionality, all rolled in to one.
Have you used Real Band? It's not particularly hard to use, and has most of BiaB's features, plus a massive amount of additional flexibility (48 tracks, regenerate any tracks, regenerate only part of a song, track volume automation, MultiRiff, & much more).
For the record, I never actually stated that I 'don't want the ability to record a single instrument improved in BIAB'.
I just think there are other tools that do this already, and would prefer to see new BIAB features that sit within the framework of the job that BiaB already does, rather than reinvent what has been done already.
Hope this observation sits OK.
However, saying that, and to be completely fair, this is a wishlist and others may add their own thoughts and support to the original idea.

To answer your specific question VT, I don't use real tracks. I tried it, admittedly a while ago, I found it 'crash city' and I could not see a point in it given that I have used Cubase since its inception on a PC. I don't want a third application stepped into the equation if I were to go down this route. I am really not a fan of the "go and use another application" answer for BIAB. I didn't like the "go you JBridge solution for BIAB. Its not a clean and proper solution. I can see it has merit for some, but not for me. As a programmer I would never use this philosophy, better to stay in app where you can. I have never saw the point of cleaving the program down the middle in the first place RB/BIAB. I realise these views are contentious, I have been flamed before, I realise there are other perspectives which are also valid, but that's my view. For me, BIAB record the user. I expect ANY accompaniment tool to do this, like a expect a fish shop to sell fish. BIAB makes a total mess of this. Not only can you NOT hear your chosen instrument before the track starts, you DON'T get the ability to record a number of takes, you also have to learn some concept of recording a track "thru" to somewhere else like a melody or soloist (why not simnply a "user" track?). Even after recording its very cumbersome to do any editing. You do have a button misleadingly called "sequencer" but where this leads you is nobody's business. Because of this I am asked to go and learn another program and sit on two stools? RB AND BIAB? For me that is NOT a intuitive or user friendly experience. Yes, I could export it all, or I could use RealBand and BIAB, or my own sequencer. But why not stay put in BIAB? The way PG program interfaces is very idiosyncratic. OK, so some of their work is genius stuff, highly creative, but...... When it comes ot an interface the overriding philosophy is t make the user experience as intuitive as possible. This means providing the functions that a user is familiar with from their past experiences with applications, not having bits and pieces of this and that represented in novel ways. I would even go further. IF BAIB was sorted out properly, I would love an ability to record EVERY take, AND access it, cut and paste it, see it as audio, within ONE app. This is where I think that BIAB should have at least some features of a sequncer - call RB the sequencer if you will... "User Track" idea: Load your instrument/VST, press record (or have it set to always on in prefs) Play. When your finished, get an offer to keep or delete takes and chorus's. If you keep takes go into a proper sequencer view and choose takes. This view to have the ability to cut and paste sections, drag the best take to the top, etc. I do realise RB can do some of this, but I would expect BIAB to be able to handle recording of one track - well- too. Especially if the code is written and used in another in house application (64 bit hopefully). Its just good basic design Regards to All Z
