OK, good. To change the instrument sound, in the Mixer, click on the Mixer tab (unless it's already up, which it is by default). For each track, you can right-click on the description of the instrument (or left-click on the little downward arrow at the far right) to bring up a menu. You can select a MIDI patch, or a RealTrack or other choices. To play a melody you wrote, it must be MIDI. If you are using a MIDI synth that requires a patch map, that option would be Select MIDI Patch, Select Higher Bank. Otherwise, try Select MIDI Patch, Select GM2.

Let's assume you have written the melody on the Melody track of BIAB, or perhaps the Soloist track. Those are the bottom two in the mixer. Once you change the patch for either of these, the new name will change, so just remember their position.

If any of this didn't make sense, don't worry, just write back.

As far as a Soundblaster, I haven't used one in a dozen years so perhaps someone else can review the settings in BIAB to use that. Are you using soundfonts with the SoundBlaster, or does it play DXi or VST synths now?
