Long time user of PT (since '95). I tried Cubase, Cakewalk, and others but I always come back to PT. So, I LOVE this product.
My System:
Computer - Dell M90
OS - Win 7 Pro
Version - PT 2015
Synth - Yamaha YPG
I created a patch map for my Yamaha YPG wayyyy back in 2008 and shared it with PG community.http://nn.pgmusic.com/pgfiles/support/patchmaps/Yamaha_YPG525.zip It has worked flawlesly up until now.
I recently installed PT on my laptop and copied my YPG patch file into the c:\PT directory by backing up the existing patches.ini file and renaming my YPG patch file to patches.ini. I have followed this procedure throughout the years and it has always ALWAYS worked.
Now, it decides NOT to work. WTF???
Any tips? Help a bruh man out!!

delete the "PATCHES.BIN" and start Power tracks again it should REBUILD the .bin file - which is what PT actually uses

The program actually uses the patches.bin file .. which gets rebuilt if it is missing, using the Patches.INI file to rebuild it.
You don't have to 'Delete' it though; moving it to a different folder or renaming it should also work (so you can retain a backup copy to revert to if you feel the need).

I tend to keep the .INI files since they are easier to copy/edit/change  (you say tomayto I say toMAHto) Larry

Great advice experts, but guess what. It still didn't work, you know why???...
ROOKIE mistake.
I forgot to set my File Explorer settings to SHOW all File extensions. When I renamed the the patch file with my YPG settings, it was actually named "patches.ini.ini"; therefore the original "patches.ini" kept loading.
Doh!!!

Every time I set up a new computer, the first thing I do is turn on file extensions. They are an important part of the file name, regardless of what Microsoft thinks. And depending upon the file, you can end up with the same icon for multiple files (especially depending upon whatever file associations you have established). So, it is possible for patches.ini, patches.txt, and patches.bat to all have the same icon - so which to choose? If you see the file extension in the name, it is much easier to choose.
Glad you got it sorted.
I know when you create a new patches.ini file, when you open PowerTracks (or RealBand), you should see a message box indicating that patches.bin was successfully built. If you don't get that box, it didn't happen.

I NEVER got why MS started "hiding" this info. Yes, you can un-hide if you know how (not rocket science) but the DEFAULT should be "SHOWN."
NO REASON to obfuscate, the extension is as unique a PART of the file name as the part before "." (like MS using only first names and ignoring family name).
If you are an semi-experienced Win user you understand it; if you are a novice then even vanilla file names, extensions, directories, folders, etc. is all "Greek" anyway.
