I NEVER got why MS started "hiding" this info. Yes, you can un-hide if you know how (not rocket science) but the DEFAULT should be "SHOWN."

NO REASON to obfuscate, the extension is as unique a PART of the file name as the part before "." (like MS using only first names and ignoring family name).

If you are an semi-experienced Win user you understand it; if you are a novice then even vanilla file names, extensions, directories, folders, etc. is all "Greek" anyway.
