Has anyone had any luck using IK Multimedia's Ampeg SVX http://www.ikmultimedia.com/ampegsvx/features/or AmpliTube Fender® http://www.ikmultimedia.com/fender/features/as VST plugins with PT12? The Ampeg and Fender® sounds are incredibly accurate but I constantly get error messages when trying to change anything in the plugins, i.e. trying to use anything other than the plugins' default (SVT for the Ampeg and Twin Reverb for the Fender®). The error message is: "Plugin Error: AmplitubeFender(recommend quitting and resatarting PowerTracks)" Mike H.

This is an unfortunate reality - they do not function properly in Powertracks! And this is applicable for many other VSTi plugins like Jamstix or Waves GTR. You will need to use them in another host as for some reason they are not supported in Powertracks or RB 2009.
This particular request has been on the forum and wish lists for probably the past 2-3 years without luck from PG. A poll was conducted recently to determine opinions on providing a Rewire capability in Powertracks and Realband but we have not yet seen any updates (assuming this would address the VST issues as well?).
Both Reatracks and Realband would be great programs with full VST support but in the interim you would need to use another sequencer (most others support VST).

Before PT had any VST support, there was a DX plugin which was a shell into which a VST plugin could be loaded. Do you (or does anyone) remember what this DX shell was and where it's avaiable? I wonder if the IK Multimedia stuff might work in the shell ...

It’s is called Directixer I have used it in the past. It doesn’t work with all VST’s but it is worth a try. Good luck - MarioD

Okay, it looks like the best solution for the IK Multimedia products conundrum is "Reaper"; see http://www.reaper.fm/ . The non-commercial license is only 60.00 USD, which puts it well within the sphere of affordability. Also, it will dovetail very nicely with PG Music products rather than compete with them, because BIAB and PT are very strong MIDI players, and Reaper's main lack appears to be its comparatively limited MIDI functionality. I've tried Reaper and intend to become a licensed user -- but I remain a faithful proponent of PG Music's library of fine, moderately-priced music software. Mike Harrison Toronto Canada
