Hi john and larry - thanks so much for continuing to think about this.

John - I tried setting the midi default to SampleTank and got the same bad results.

Larry - yes, I discovered the .dll file for SampleTank a day or two ago but I forgot to mention it so, unfortunately, that's not the issue.

The closest I can get is setting Audio preferences to ASIO. That, at least, will get the SampleTank to play in the synth panel but then it's silent in RB.

BTW I hate ASIO. I can't even play youtube videos or the Windows Media Player when I have RB open with ASIO as the auidio driver.

The problem is not ASIO. You mentioned that you also could not get 32 bit Kontakt to work so the problem isn't jBridge either. The problem is a routing one. It could help us if you would include a few screenshots as maybe we could see the problem.

What soundcard are you using? From what I have read ASIO4all is very good but it can be tricky to set up when using some sound cards. If you are going to record using your keyboard then an ASIO driver is a necessary driver otherwise latency (press a key and a second later hear it) will drive you nuts.

See if your current soundcard has native ASIO drivers. If it doesn't and you are planning on recording your keyboard then you should very seriously consider a new soundcard.

As mentioned ASIO will only drive one program at a time so no you will not be able to use Media Player with RB open if both are using ASIO drivers. This is why I use MME drivers in BiaB and ASIO drivers in Sonar. You would use MME drivers in BiaB and ASIO drivers in RB. Note I would record in RB and not in BiaB.

I really appreciate the help. Here's some info for you.

Sound card is the one that came with the HP Windows 7 computer by
Realtek set to 16 bit 44.1 Hz.

I don't use a keyboard.

Output drivers in RB with MME are Realtek or Microsoft Midi Mapper. I've tried both. Three output driver ports are available when I switch to AISO - Only the first one will allow the synth panel in the VST Window to play (It's called HD Audio Output 1 + 2)

Here are 3 screen shots. Need any others?

Maybe you don't have speakers set as the default WINDOWS audio playback device? or they should show up in Real Bands "MME drivers" window as something to select?

Hope this helps

EDIT

I forget to mention Real Band (without getting into MID thru settings) will NOT send MIDI data out to your MIDI device (e.g., Coyote, SampleTank 3) UNTIL you hit record! translation you won't hear anything until you hit record

Now I also forgot how to (or even if you can) with MME HEAR the MIDI device while you are recording something but I know you can with ASIO (which is my default because I use a MAINLY external MIDI keyboards and guitars so I want very little latency - I like to hear the stuff I'm triggering while it's being recorded).

Hi larry k - Thanks. Are you on a Mac? My RB doesn't have that little button on the bottom right. I'm on Windows 7. Anyway, I got to where you were ultimately pointing through preferences and made sure that speakers are highlighted and moved to the top to make them the default midi out devices. No change. I pushed the default MME button on preferences/audio, too, just in case.

I went back and re-installed SampleTank, this time using the default file locations instead of a location on my Dropbox. The synth panel configuration window now shows many more instruments so I must have messed something up in the first installation. The bad news is that it still doesn't play in RB and it took a step backwards, too. I used to be able to hear sounds when in the synth panel if I had RB set to AISO. Now that doesn't work, anymore.

I also experimented with the changing the track in the sampletank synth panel. The track I'm testing is Track #4, midi channel 3. I've tried putting the desired synth on both tracks 3 and 4 and also on track 1 in the sampletank synth panel and it makes no difference.

I ran the DX diagnostics tool in "options" on the sampletank synth panel and everything checked out.

One more thing - the "speakers" midi out you mentioned is not an option in preferneces/audio when I'm running AISO. Maybe there is something that can be done ????

Not at computer now but I run Win 7 64 also
and my example above was for MME

Asio won't show "speakers" as output it assumes you set your ASIO device driver output to there or WHEREVER you want it

But you should have the button in realband bottom right like my picture?

Hi again, Larry. I'm on the latest 2015 (8) version of RB and don't have that button. odd.... Maybe it's because I don't have a large screen.

But I can set "speakers" as the audio out driver in preferences when I'm running MME. The midi out driver can be either Microsoft GS Wavetable Synch or Microsoft Midi Mapper. And neither will play SampleTank.

When I change to AISO, RB will not allow me to select either of these 2 midi drivers at all. Maybe if I can find an alternate free midi driver that AISO likes, I could get somewhere.

This won’t help your current issue - but as info:

The MIDI "Output drivers," determines where to route/send RealBand MIDI data to EXTERNAL MIDI devices, which includes (paradoxically) things like "MIDI yoke," LoopBe2 (free by the way) or LoopBe30 or other virtual port devices.

So as far as getting ST 3 or any plug-in to work within Real Band the "MIDI Output Drivers" (all, one, or none) are immaterial. For the purists, yes we can MAKE them matter if we start using software re-routers like LoopBe2, Loopbe30, MIDI yoke to send MIDI data to ST3 standalone - but that is NOT the way to troubleshoot this problem or even work in general)

The MIDI "Output drivers" are in play: (again without confusing the bigger topic with "MIDI Thru" settings) If you don’t have "Re-Route MIDI playback to default Dxi/VSTi Synth" checked. In this case, MIDI data in Real Band, during playback, will go out to the "outside world" devices (external hardware synths or to software re-routers or even the MS GS wavetable essentially the same thing as CoyoteWT).

If you DO HAVE "Re-Route MIDI playback to default Dxi/VSTi Synth" CHECKED then ALL MIDI data (EXCEPT possibly MIDI thru) is sent to the user selected VSTi's within Real Band (either the default VSTi or the individual track(s) set VSTi's - they can all be different.

Again I suggest you CALL PG they can walk you through in real time and ask follow ups, that are hard and time consuming for you, to make sure you have everything set correctly including (if required for this problem) your WINDOWS audio "stuff"

Tried ASIO4All?

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
