True but the bigger picture is emissions and fuel economy. The only way to have a smelly, dirty engine that runs on fossil fuels produce a clean exhaust plus get better and better economy is through sophisticated computers controlling an electronic ignition, electronic fuel injection, electronic variable valves and all that.
Hmmm, nuh, not really, but it IS a hell of a lot *cheaper and considerably easier to maintain - not all mechanics are created equal... Not to mention the incredible variability in quality of what passes for fuel these days

Of course, something that never seems to come up with the car manufacturers is water injection - water injection has considerable benefits when used correctly. (voice of experience, not theory)
*'tis a shame the savings aren't passed on to the consumer though. Or perhaps they are but indirectly in that we're getting more in the rest of the car for our buck than we would have... I need to think about that.
