The Miller

There once was miller who's mill was down bye the stream.
Awake early morning and stumbled away from his dreams.
Bagging and grinding and toiling away at the mill.
Though work never faltered ambitions bothered him still.

He worked every day at the mill my love
He worked day at the mill
He worked every day at the mill my sweet.
Until

There once was a seamstress who worked neath candle light.
There once was a seamstress who work till late at night.
Both mending and sewing her work would never be done.
A life of hard labor and paid with a pitiful some.

She worked till the household was still my love
She worked till the household was still
She worked till the household was still my love.
Until

While delivering some flour he met her and tried not to stare.
A young handsome miller was more than her young heart could bare.
They vowed to each other no longer would they be apart.
The miller and seamstress now both would make afresh start.

He worked every day at the mill my love
She worked till the household was still
He worked every day at the mill my sweet.
Until

There once was a couple with three boisterous children at home.
The more time together the stronger their true love had grown.

x2 He worked every day at the mill my love
She worked till the household was still
He worked every day at the mill my sweet.
Until

Rob, We seem to be at opposite ends of the song-writing spectrum as you produce beautiful songs from an era gone by.

This is a song that could have been the background to my early days on this planet.

A nice pleasant listen

Hello Rob,

This is a very nice song (a traditional or your own?). It's well sung, especially the backing vocals.
Did you use the TCHelicon for this?

Enjoyed this a lot. If PGMusic's Radio Channel takes off, you'll be the 'traditional' oldies channel. You have such a good take on so many varied bygone styles.

I also want to comment that you get such clean recordings and mixes. That is quite a feat in itself. Maybe you can elaborate on your gear, set up and recording process sometime.

Keep 'em coming. I always enjoy your songs.

Another great tune. Well put together. Harmonies, and the hook is really catchy

Nice mix on that, Rob.

Good vocal. The whole thing has a Burl Ives vibe to it.

Nice harmonies, too..

+1 RichMac's comment on the vocal. They sound loud and clear but still sit perfect in the mix. I like how the steel guitar sits in the mix quite a lot too.

Very authentic folk song.

Hey, you have a time machine
stashed in you basement?
It sounds like you live a few
days in another time to get
these songs right.

Nice vocal delivery and a
fine mix to support it all.

We enjoyed it.

Rob,

The Miller is such an easy song to listen to. From a sound aspect, you've really found a sweet spot in your productions. You've done everything right.

Great arrangement, like the way you have the steel guitar present but back in the background where it belongs. You didn't mention what the pad was way in the background but it was very tasty.

Your voice shines on ballads like this. Excellent vocal and harmony.

Hi Jim thanks for your comments and support.
I think the pad you refer to is slow strings.
Just played them in via my keyboard. Yamaha PSR E423
Thank you for your kind words.
Rob.
