If you want to use a 4/4 style in a 3/4 song, you will have to select the 4/4 style and then explicitly set the number of beats for bar 1 to 3 (use the F5 key to do that). It will then play in 3/4 (until another beats-per-bar change), but use the 4/4 style.

Don't know how it will sound for a walking bass, as the style will only play the first 3 beats of the defined style (so if it was designed to walk based on 4 beats, it's not going to automatically adjust to 3 beats, it's just going to play whatever the first three beats are).

But it's worth the few minutes to try it and see if it works for you.

Separately, as Matt said, though, if you want to mix and match 3/4 and 4/4 styles, you MUST start with a 4/4 style. If you try to start with a 3/4 style, you will be stuck in 3/4 for the whole song - it will never play 4/4, even if you switch to a 4/4 style mid-song. That's just the way it works.
