It looks like this will be a very good movie. There were only one Elvis and there is only one set of Beach Boys. Brian Wilson is said to be a genius. I know he wrote some great songs and harmonies that have stood the test of time.

Did you know he was born deaf in his right ear? Go see it . . .

His songs along with the entire Beach Boys Band sound are at the top of my all time favorites. Frankie Valley, Bee Gees, Abba, Journey - all the groups with incredible harmonies and amazing recording engineers - as well as amazing lyrics and catchy melodies. What are some of yours ?

Looking forward to streaming it. There is also a really good TV movie made about them years ago - back when they still made really good TV movies and mini-series - I don't remember the name of it though.

Some many years ago, maybe as much as ten or more, there was a documentary screened on UK TV about Brian, I remember it being very interesting.

I'll rent it as soon as it comes to Netflix. I don't go to the theater anymore. I measured the volume in one at 110db between explosions, enough to cause hearing damage to my most important musical instrument - my ears.

Also, I was a kickstarter supporter for The Wrecking Crew movie, and I'm supposed to get my DVD this month. I'm excited.

Was it Summer Dreams? It is on YouTube.

I am seeing Love & Mercy in an hour. The movie reviews have been oustanding, some even claiming it will do well at the Oscars.

I'll let ya know.

The movie was great, well worth the admission price. The actors were fantastic.

So, how do you get a Harpsichord type sound in a Beach Boy song recorded when you don't actually have a Harpsichord? You use women's bobby-pins scattered across the strings of a piano.

Genius.

One of my favorites, the fifth studio album from the English progressive rock band 'Yes', a three track album called "Close To The Edge". It featured an 18 minute title track on side one, and two songs, "Siberian Khantru" and "And You and I", on side two. My two favorite tracks are "Close To The Edge" and "And You and I".

Another of my favorites is the fourth album by Seals & Crofts called "Summer Breeze". My two favorite tracks from that Album are "Summer Breeze" and "The Boy Down the Road".

Who could ever forget the Beach Boys "I get around", "Louie, Louie", "Barbara Ann", "California" "In my room", "Kokomo", "Dreamin'", "California Girls".... Just too many to name.

Trax, I'm so looking forward to the movie.

I think you'll really enjoy these videos.

This one is a video of them in studio:

Good Vibrations the Lost Studio Footage - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVlSVkzbJDA It's funny watching Brian "air drum" along with the great Hal Blaine.

These next two just show photos but you get to hear the session in progress - the music arrangement is just incredible by itself and in part 2 near the end you'll hear the vocal tracks with and without music - awesome.

Behind The Sounds: God Only Knows Part 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVUBpzlELOg

Behind The Sounds: God Only Knows Part 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCTVcNsJGX0

There's also a behind the sounds on YT of Wouldn't It Be Nice you'll see in the search results on the side when these come up.

Enjoy!

My wife and I saw it this weekend. Highly recommended. The Wrecking Crew is actually given props in the movie quite a bit.

Colorado Springs has a small theatre which plays more independent and art-type movies. We see 3 or 4 movies there a year and for the most part we've really enjoyed them.

One of the trailers played before Love & Mercy was for a movie called "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl". I've never seen a trailer that actually choked me up in the 60s or so like that one.

After several have seen Love & Mercy, let's check back in here. Don't want to spoil it for others who plan on seeing it.

Thanks Josie. The studio one was new for me.

I appreciate the links, thanks!

Also, in my original post I said that Brian Wilson had been born deaf in his right ear. That was mis-quoted, he wasn't born deaf in his right ear. There is another reason why he is deaf and I don't want to spoil it here.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.

The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
