Hi, Guenter.

I listened to all 100+ (pieces for the most parts). Here are notes that I took as I went through them...

The Gadget had some nice moments. DSFGR did a nice job of keeping focus n the vocal. Kaplos was interesting - taking the song to a different place. Foxtail's was really nice! - the finger snaps started out sounding good, but got too much by the end. skeuo was good. DubAlexis started out nice (then got boring).
Ran across a couple with male vocals (was that offered?). Mooii got me moving in my chair - but got boring quickly. Ice Fish was interesting - but a lot overboard...obnoxious by the end..Kavix did a really nice build. Pesciz was inventive, but not enjoyable. Hinatar opened nicely then turned into a train wreck. Dirty X was different. Starting with big piano chords is a favorite theme - was that one of the stems? AMKAM wasn't bad...Markus Adams was listenable - the guitar made it stand out a bit and the delayed saw tooth worked...

I did get tired of hearing the relentless beat. After a while, I found the vocal itself to be somewhat "lacking in interest"...content-wise (the vocal quality is excellent).

I'm biased, of course... but, again, your mix is by far the most interesting - and the most listenable. I was surprised that the selected RealDrums gave you such a good "dance beat" (did you have to manipulate that to do that?). I did want to sax to have a little more "gutsy" sound to it (but that's just because I prefer a "deeper" sax).

Nicely done. Good luck with it!

floyd

Edit - I forgot to mention how good the arrangement and mix were! But...That goes without saying...

Hi Guenter,

I had pretty much the same feeling as Floyd but I didn't listen to all of them grin. Of the ones I listened to I thought yours was the most "musical", and pleasant to the ear. Good luck.

Another beautiful job Guenter!! Pretty song. The way you weaved that sax into it was awesome! Sounds like it was custom played by Wayne Shorter. Another delicious musical treat! Take care. Greg

Hi Floyd,

thanks for putting so much work in this.
You are right, there are many interesting
contributions. And many have very good sounds (including
subsonics).
"Ran across a couple with male vocals (was that offered?)"
No, it wasn't. There were some different songs smuggled in.
"Starting with big piano chords is a favorite theme - was that one of the stems?"
Yes, it was. But I din't use it.
"After a while, I found the vocal itself to be somewhat "lacking in interest"."
You have just overdone it with your listening marathon.
"I was surprised that the selected RealDrums gave you such a good "dance beat" (did you have to manipulate that to do that?)."
No, I just took it as it was.
" I did want the sax to have a little more "gutsy" sound to it (but that's just because I prefer a "deeper" sax)."
It's a soprano sax and of course has a smaller body. I like it a lot sice Sting used it in some of his songs. I found the tune so fitting. Now you have to bite the bullet.
Once again thanks a lot for your detailed review and your nice support.

Well thanks to floyd I was motivated to go and
listen to more of the efforts by other participants.

I think this is a good description. So many of the
others had their good moments but didn't sustain
them through the production. For example I liked the
Kavix version but then it would get frenetic sounding
to my ears.

I can't articulate what "musical and pleasant
to ear" is very well but I got the same feeling
listening to your version.

I'm gonna pass this thread along to a younger
friend who sings and plays this type of music. I'm
sure she will be impressed as we are.

Hi Geunter.
The intricacies of what you do are way beyond me.
I just listen to the overall effect and it sounds great to me.
Complex and certainly holds the interest. Cheers.

It was fun to listen to some of the other contest submissions and realize the rush you probably get getting to play in such an imagination filled playground of remix contests.

Your work is stellar and the re-mixes keep getting better and better. That BIAB is there for your use and allows your imagination to run wild and give you the materials to build a soundscape from scratch is awesome and inspiring.

I always look forward to your new posts. Always fun and always motivational.

Charlie

In a word, Professional!

I listened to a few bars of a few of the others...after listening to yours:) They lacked vocal impact for the most part. Your intro/mix really premiers the outstanding singer.

HI Guenter
Another wonderful remix and I am going to sound a bit like a repetative robot but yours are so much better than the others. I dont know how Floyd made it through all those other remixes...
