Years back I lived on the outskirts of London; I had a beautiful girlfriend; a 250BHP 2 1/2 litre, straight 6 Triumph TR6 and most importantly for its petrol consumption, I had a well paid job. Every other weekend we'd drive somewhere on Friday evening and be back Sunday night ready for work Monday. Never kept to the speed limit on motorways. We went every where we could reach in 5 hours hence the speeding. whistle

This song is about the return journeys. I drove to Deep Purple, Queen, Brandenburg Concerto and Fred Astaires greatest hits to name a few. All mixed to C120's so I didn't have to change cassettes too often.

Thank you for loving me

I was driving down that long old road
through mask of night to day
my mind started wandering
as I caught a glimpse of your skirt riding up your thigh

I ran my fingers through your hair
both hands left the steering wheel
I only had to look at you, only had to think of you
and if my mind hadn't stopped it would be screaming still

thank you for loving me
that's all I need to know
I got such a lot of love that I'll never ever show
thank you for loving me
that's all I need to know
I got such a lot of love that I'll never ever show

the moon was eaten by a wandering cloud
as i struggled with the demon sleep
that was always there with me on the steering wheel
like a monster from the deep

I heard a toot and heard you laugh
as you opened up your eyes
those eyes said so many words to me
but none of them came as a surprise

thank you for loving me
that's all I need to know
I got such a lot of love that I'll never ever show
thank you for loving me
that's all I need to know
I got such a lot of love that I'll never ever show

Good one Alyn. Can feel the road in this one.
The chorus is great.
A bit Roger Waters. Cheers.

Hi Alyn. Well this is different, even for you grin. The contrast between the "spoken" word of the versus and the multiple layered harmonies of the chorus make this an engaging listen. Gibson at his best!

Hello Alyn,

You manage to use BIAB in such an original way every time!
This is another cool one. Like Rich said: Roger Waters like.
Unique, different and very 'British pop/rock'

One example of the very creative lyrics in this song. It is a very textural and interesting listen. There is a constantly evolving and changing story driven by both music and lyrics. The verses and chorus are a world apart but somehow fit perfectly together. You are a creative wizard Alyn!! Take care. Greg

thank you, blush I try to post different songs so that my listener(s) won't really know what to expect. I got carried away by the chorus as there were about 10 of me but I wanted to shout out our love for each other....well then at least cos we got divorced quite a few years later cry grin

Hi Alyn,

When I see a new song from you pop up in the forum, I know I'm going to be surprised. You're like a magician. There always seems to be another rabbit in the hat to delight the audience.

Just when I thought I'd heard all your styles, you come along and post this! It's a great listen. Like Joanne, I'm a fan of the spoken word verses versus the harmonically and electronically layered chorus. Very creative... but then you always are!

I enjoyed it!

All the best,
Noel

Alyn,

Awesome. I like how you put so much of yourself into your songs - both the writing and the production - a little piece of your soul in each. So very original. So enjoyable to listen to.

Excellent. (Nice collection of guitars!)

Thanks Tom,
I am always glad you like my stuff.
To have so many good musicians say I sound like Mr Waters is great praise. BIAB is a great band to have behind me and I hope we don't argue and split grin

Funny how we both have driving songs on the forum!

One night my son, when a kid, said something like "the moon is eating a cloud", his birth stopped our trips mad grin so it ended up in my lyrics box.

Glad you enjoyed

Thank you for the comments, when I cruised the TR6 at about *cough* 80 -90 miles per hour-ish the exhaust note and the vibrations from the stiff suspension seemed to set a mood. I loved that car and am glad its spirit is in the song. That sounds so weird crazy laugh but I had a tear in my eye when I sold it on the birth of my son!

Thanks for listening

Alyn
