I Got Lucky
(alternate link at bottom of page if you have SC issues)

Time to get back to the 12 bar blues..or to rockabilly…or maybe bluesabilly?

I threw these "throwaway lyrics" together at Starbucks one day and then decided to toss them…Janice insisted I not and thought she could work with it. Further evidence that she can make anything I write, no matter how mundane, sound good! A big thanks to Tom (tommyad) who played a cool lead guitar track.

Thanks for your time to listen and comments are appreciated.

Bud

Janice: Vocal via Rodes NT1, Blue Icicle interface and Logic Pro
Tom Adams: Lead Guitar
Bass: RT 2421 (simple)
Guitar Rhythm: 2423
Piano: 2424
Bud: Arrangement, mixing and mastering
All effects via Ozone 6 and/or Nectar 2 (other than what Tom does :))

I got lucky
© 2015 Janice and Bud Merritt

I got real lucky with you baby
yeah I got so lucky with you baby
You lit up my life, ain't a chance of maybe

There's not another like you in this land
I got the only one any where in the land
You just walked in, I didn't need a mojo hand

Didn't even know I held the winning number
All this time I'd been holding the right number
I won life's lotto and now nothing could be finer

I never thought I'd love a man like this
No never thought I'd find a joy like this
And it didn't take anything but the first kiss

Hi Janice, Bud and Tom.

I can't believe it! I'm first in the thread. I got lucky, too. What a great song. Everything you all do shines brighter than the midday sun - great singing, great guitar work, top notch arranging and mixing. This is an excellent listen (just like so very many before it). 12 bar blues + traditional-based blues lyrics + toe-tapping backing meet creative writing + inspired performing + thoughtful producing.

In a nutshell.... music at its best (again)!

Regards,
Noel

Hi Janice & Bud (and Tommy),

we got lucky you didn't throw this away.
A real toe tapper.
Excellent vocals and appropriate lead guitar.
Bud did a great job arranging and mixing.
Some very enjoyable listens.

Ha. Also got lucky to get in so early in the thread. Lucky you didn't throw the lyrics away. Lucky I found this software. Lucky I found this forum. I also got lucky! Thanks for reminding me.

Whow Tom is definitely outdoing himself here with the solo, beautiful!
Apart from that, as usual, another pro mix.
The 2424 piano RT works great (I'll give that a try sometime too).
Another one well sung by Janice.

All around great, and especially great vocal production. What kind of mic are you using, and what effects/modules are you using in post production? Love it.

Thanks Noel. Janice, Tom and only three RT's seemed to work out pretty well and reading your comments makes us feel all the better for the effort. Thank you!

A big THANKS to all of you who commented on the guitar part. With Janice's outstanding vocals and Bud's attention to detail in writing, arranging and mixing, it is easy to find inspiration. Thanks J&B for including me. It's always a pleasure. Tom

Thanks Guenter. Glad you liked it and extra thanks for
mentioning the mix. For only three RT's it was
a surprising challenge.

Spec-tac-u-lar, y'all!!

Bud, your "throwaways" are solid! You'll have folks digging through your trash soon... Excellent melody from your co-writer, too!

Gorgeous vocal! Duh.

Excellent arrangement and mix. Love the sound on the slap bass! The piano sounds great.

Tom's guitar is perfect! You could have told me that was a Brent RT and I would have believed it (or George Harrison!)

Cool stuff! All around!

Duh.

Hi Janice, Bud & Tommy.

Been missing from the forum for a while, but SO glad I didn't miss this one.

What a super blend of styles -a funky, bluesy, country 12 bar with the added attraction of a Janice vocal.

On top of all that there's some superb guitar from Tommy.

Well, what's not to like?

ROG.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
