An MGX file is created when you import a MIDI (all of which goes into the Melody track, by design), and then do not enable a BIAB style for the song.

It's basically used for using BIAB as just a simple MIDI player, without any of the accompaniment features.

If you enable and/or select a style for the song (assuming that's what you want to do), the next save will be as an MGU file.
