When time permitted JonD and I worked on this song. It took a couple of weeks but we finally finished it.

BiaB style = Slow Blues1 -ChicagoBlues ph-Pn
I deleted the bass and piano parts.
The bass is RT 1012 Bass, Bluesrock SW 140

I am playing the guitar and wind controller (sax) while JonD is playing the piano and the vibes via his MIDI keyboard controller.

We hope that you like it.

Mario and Jon...

Very nice. Smooth. Your wind controller sax is always well done. Jon's vibes are cool, too.

I thought a soft brush kit would be a better drum choice for the tune... the high-hat seems a bit "harsh" compared to the other instruments and the overall tone of the piece (which is super nice)... but that might just be me - I seldom care for that type hi-hat - so others may disagree....

Overall - a good listen.

Hi Mario,

another nice collab with JonD.
The sax sounds really natural.
When I read "Blues" I was pleasantly surprised
about the chord progression.
Enjoyable listen.

Very sweet jam!! Love the chord changes. Wind controller sax is great, as is the guitar solo. I agree with Floyd that the hi-hat is a bit loud/distracting. Great job!! Take care. Greg

very nice, mario!

lovely sax and cool, airy guitar – nice vibes and piano - i would prefer a little more piano in the mix
the chord changes in the composition are interesting

i agree with floyd; try brushes instead of sticks on the drums
maybe an upright bass, kind of jazz-style could bring some nice elements to it, too

looking forward to "friday night blues" ;-)

Mario and JonD,

+100 to all the other poster's comment.
I also agree that a brush kit might be a better choice but as it stands EXCELLENT playing from both of you.

An enjoyable listen

Hi Mario.

What a great track to chill-out to late in the evening.

I like to hear a backing which has space in it and this is beautifully done. It gives the lead instruments room in which to work and I must say, the solos are super.

Excellent.

Thanx all for listening, the very nice comments, and the suggestions, I greatly appreciate them.

Floyd (and others) - I second guessed myself on the drums. I had brushes in the song initially but said I have been using a brush kit to frequently lately. So I changed them. BIG mistake. Thanx for bringing that to my attention.

Guenter - I should have named this one "Wednesday Night Jazz Blues".

Patrick - go ahead and buy one. My Akai EWI-USB isn't that expensive. However there is a learning curve and I have a long way to go.

Charlie - I doubt that I am the benchmark for MIDI reality. There are tons of other MIDI musicians that put me to shame. I just like to push the MIDI side of BiaB as it seems to be the forgotten cousin to many.

Thanx to all that listened. I will share these comments with Jon the next time he comes over. We both appreciate your comments.

Yes it is amazing and we enjoy being amazed. You, JonD and
the choice of RT's sound wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed

Mario,

This is really interesting. The changes Db7 to Emi6/C (where you're playing Db and C on the bass) hides the dissonance C# (the 6 in Emi6) on top of the C bass. BUT - and this is the really clever thing - only the C# differentiates Emi6/C from Cmaj7. In the key of C, Emi6/C equals Cmaj7b9, which is a pretty funky sound. But played by the bass, the C covers both both possibilities.

Damn! That's clever. Good guitar sound, intelligent ideas on these unfamiliar changes. And you play sax too?

It isn't a blues, but I wonder what people on the street (a la Jay Leno) would say if you asked them to define "the blues." As in, "Excuse me, sir, can you tell me: In music, what does 'tbe blues' mean? My money says not one in a thousand.

Thanx for listening and the very nice comments.

Josie - thanx, about 90% of the wind controller is live and the rest is editing.

Curt - thanx but there are others out there that blow me away when it comes to MIDI emulating acoustic instruments. I'm still on a steep learning curve. I wish that I had more time to put into this but things are very hectic right now.

J&B - thanx - read my comments to Curt.

Dean - man you listen that closely? We don't! JonD and I use theory when putting together chord progressions but we just play the leads without thinking about theory. We play what we feel.

No I don't play sax. I play an Akai USB-EVI wind controller and I use samplemodeling's sax VSTis.

I should have called it jazz blues I guess!

Thanx for all the positive comments.

Ps - you had both of us going back and looking!

Scott - thanx for listening and the very kind comments.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
