Floyd,
The choice of instruments for this song is perfect - everything placed as it should be & another flawless mix. I, too was impressed with the entrance of the strings when you chose to bring them in.
Another masterful, wonderfully composed production...

Phew! That is something else Floyd. As Charlie says, a complex situation is put across so beautifully in this song. Curve indeed.

Hi Floyd,
what a beautiful and touching song. Great sparse arrangement. Your vocals really shine. I enjoyed this so much.
Guenter Thanks, Guenter. As always, I appreciate your continued support... Masterfully written and delivered!! There is no more full or crafted pen on the forum. This is such a beautiful song about the ever common frail and struggling relationships with their oases and mind fields. A difficult and complex situation to write about but done this time so eloquently by a very skilled writer. Strings introduced in the end were perfectly measured. An awesome write, beautiful sparse arrangement, and a vocal which squeezed all the emotional juice out of such a fine lyric. Bravo!! Take care. Greg Greg - I certainly appreciate all those wonderful comments. After listening to the cello again, I found I liked it, too, if I kept it from stepping on certain piano parts (particularly the ending) - thanks!

"i know the way her fever flows"
Wow, that line just knocked us out. It is really defines the rest of the lyric. We knew at this point that we were listening to a completely unique take on the breakup theme.
The pianos and cello sound like they are played by folks who have worked with you for years. This is a showcase within the User Showcase for illustrating the power of RT's when arranged by one with prodigious skill. And we are coming to take for granted the great vocal and clarity in the mix for which adjectives escape.
Extraordinarily well done mr jane and it deserves a huge audience.

Hi Floyd, I think this is one of your best songs, beautiful. Both piano tracks blend very well together and leave lots of space for your voice. On top of that the song has a slow, quiet and even relaxing pace, despite of the pretty dramatic lyrics. En... dank je voor je Nederlandse commentaar op Westerwolde (And.. thank you for your Dutch comment on Westerwolde ) Anne-Marie

Hi, Floyd !
I agree with what others, who can formulate themselves better than me, have said about this tune !
This must be one of your very best writes, though I have to admit that everything you do is simply the best !:))
Cheers Dani LOL!! Thanks, Dani - always glad to move it up one more notch! Good to see you back... Hi floyd, What a great audio journey. The song and its arrangement are first class! As I sat here listening with my eyes closed, the image that appeared in my mind was that of a guy sitting on a chair on a lonely stage. He looked a bit like Marlon Brando in 'Streetcar Named Desire' - roughly semi-dressed and wearing jeans and a white singlet; no shoes. The guy was half-talking, half-singing to the audience. (His partner had just stormed off into the wings leaving shattered chaos scattered across the floor in her wake.) To my ears, this song has "from a theatrical production" written all over it. (I mean that as a compliment.) As always, you've managed to invent some outstanding phrases that are not only conversational but also set the tone and clearly define the characters within the lyrics. Some of the word combinations that left me thinking, "ooooh, that's very clever, floyd" were... - front door screams (In my mind, this personified the front door. It's a terrific choice of verb.)
- huffy last goodbye ('huffy' is a great choice of adjective - it adds a whole heap of indignant depth to the 'last goodbye')
- exit cry (You cleverly made me think of 'war cry' with this phrase.)
- I know the way her fever flows (A very creative way of saying 'she runs hot and cold'.)
- The four lines from "You-don't-love-me accusations" (what a great compound adjective, by the way!) through to ..."the fault".
- "Give your enemy an apology, Give your lover another day" (such very powerful lines that astutely summarise the duality of the couple's relationship)
I totally enjoyed everything about this. Regards, Noel P.S. I forgot to mention how crystal clear your production is. It's outstanding. As always, Noel, it is a pleasure to read your thoughts on songs and productions. It just so happens I look very much like a young Marlon Brando. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! I can certainly see this being done just the way you described it. You pointed out some of my favorite things about this song. I'm quite tickled, myself, with the title - I keep thinking "man! I like that title..." Thanks for your wonderful words...

Gosh Floyd, what a beautiful song. I was involved in a relationship a very long time ago that made me feel exactly like that, so like they say "I feel the pain". tremendous song as usual my friend.
Mike B. Thanks, Mike - seems like everyone's had one of these... Always glad when I can hook you with one - I know my usual stuff is not generally your cup of tea - thanks for stopping in... I agree with Noel - sounds like a song from a play. Not an easy thing to write. Beautifully done. Soulfully sung and that piano sounds terrific to be midi. What are you using for the midi sound? Thanks, Josie - appreciate that. The piano is a 4Front TruePiano - they are exceptional - with a lot of variety between the different type pianos... In this case, I had to add a bit more reverb to the TruePiano than I would normally chose to - so that it matched the sound of the RT piano (even though I had turned the reverb on the RT completely off - the recordings of some of the piano seem to have a "big room sound" to them - even "dry")

floyd I read all the previous replies first for a change and Noel's shows how different we all are because I thought an Andrew Lloyd Webber style song and I am not a great fan of "stage-musical soliloquies" But that threw me because I heard Neil Diamond trying to sound like floyd, as soon as I heard your voice and the piano. Definitely listening first from here on in!!! I didn't like the piano arrangement initially but it quickly grew on me. nice sparse arrangement. All in all I enjoyed. Your voice and production, as usual, are impeccable. Alyn "Neil Diamond trying to sound like floyd..." HA! crack me up! someday, we'll need to share a beer over a discussion about that piano... thanks for the listen!... Hi Floyd.
I always like a song which leaves you with something to think about and this one is certainly thought provoking.
Aren't these supertracks great? I wish I could play piano like that! The only problem is that you wouldn't normally track this up - you'd do the tracks at the same time so that the piano could follow the voice. I can only imagine how difficult it was to sing and follow the piano, but you've got it just right and the whole thing sounds like it was done live. Magnificent.
ROG. Hi, ROG! Actually, the way I did this was to sing to the RT only (811:Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Acc PopVancouver Ev 100) which is, for the most part a consistent flow - it does have a few quirks now and then - I'm assuming modeled after Joni Mitchell's style of playing. Then, once I had that done, I added in the MIDI Supertrack (2066:Piano, Rhythm NewAgeAnswers Ev16 110) which is a lot more variable, to emphasize the lyric with its timing - matching parts of that track to the lyric... so that when I was finished, (hopefully) it sounded like a player playing for the singer... glad you came by for a listen...

Very dramatic. Theres that Glen Campbell sound again. This is such a good song. There is a slight buzz panned to the R/H channel. May be just me. Thanks, Rob. Glen was my first influence. A nice classic "Triple A" structured, Jimmy Webb kind of song. Don't get many in that style these days.
Very nice work. The piano is as crisp and pure as I've heard anywhere. I gotta look up, and play around with the SMP-NAA.
Exquisite is the work I would use to describe this. Loved the production as well. I was waiting for the "band" to kick in but as I began to realize it was a piano song, I was already well "into" the song. Thanks for all that, Herb. Appreciate it. Sometimes, ya just gotta give the band a break, ya know...

Floyd
A crisp, clear, clean ballad. Beautifully put together with superb acoustics
Fantastic balance, absolutely top arrangement and so refreshing.
The strings filled in extremely sensitively
Tops!
Trev
Thanks, Trevor - you know I always appreciate when you drop by...makes me feel good that you consider the arrangement well done (since you are a piano guy... and, hey, when might we hear another from you?) floyd, The piano sound and editing is superb! The arrangement is very cosmopolitan. You must have gone to New York in your mind during the composition. The lyrics are intelligently crafted. The late entrance of the strings made them even more effective than if they had been there earlier. Sung with feeling and conviction. I liked it a lot and it shows another side of BIAB that we don't often hear on this forum. Congratulations on another fine piece of work. Tom Tom - appreciate all that. I've always liked these type productions - which I could NEVER do if it weren't for BIAB!

Powerful song, well written, love the sparse arrangement. I like that you held the title out until the end. The piano mix was great, enjoyed.
Kenny Thanks, Kenny... the title is one of my favorite parts of the song Hi Floyd. I really enjoy the sparse clean clear style of this song. The heartfelt vocal shows off the lyrics magnificently. Like the way you let the ends of phrases fade. Can certainly relate to the lyrics. I think it all comes together perfectly. My favourite.Cheers. Richard - appreciate that... I would guess we've all had this situation at some point...

Fantastic write, and the cello coming in was perfect.
I love the space in the song - it reminded me of an early Springsteen song with a country flavor.
