That's exactly what you have to do.
I suspect it has something to do with selecting the cell within the bar, versus selecting the entire bar, so you have to go into that second bar to let BIAB know you are selecting full bars.
That's just one of those things you find out and then you know it, and it only takes a fraction of a second to do.
