I use to do this a lot and my late brother, a producer, discouraged it advising that it was better to partial pan and use the entire landscape rather than just have bushes around the perimeter.

Conversely, I recently purchased the ReThink Mixing course from The Recording Revolution and Graham Cochran teaches that the wider stereo image that results from LRC panning is the latest thing in the pro mixes.

My brother's advice comes from the 80-90's era and The Recording Revolution advise is current to today. It likely indicates a change between the times. I always liked LRC and use it more now after several decades of abandoning it.
