Hello folks: I posted this on the Personus forum but got no response. Thought maybe some one here might be able to help me, since it was here I learned about using this DAW. I'm using Studio One with the Audio Box
Will it damage the Audio Box or a dynamic mic that plugs in with a 1/4 jack, and can I use Phantom Power. Or will it only work with the Personus m7 mic that came with the unit, or any USB powered condenser mic.. I'm trying to record vocals from a looper that only has 1/4 input jacks. Or would it possible to go into the Audio Box with the M7 and out into the looper through the monitor outs.

The rest I'm having difficulty understanding your exact question.
Most interfaces will work with a variety of mics. Most Condenser mics are not 1/4" jacks.... they use XLR.
USB mics generally are not good for recording.
Most gear is fairly bullet proof so you can plug things in with various configurations and not release the magic smoke. It all sounds like line level stuff so it should be fine.

As Herb stated, dynamic mics are not affected by phantom power and do not need phantom power. The Audiobox has a 48v phantom power switch that can be turned off if you are using a ribbon mic or not using a condenser mic that requires phantom voltage.
The two channel audiobox and audiobox vsl do not have a true line level input. The four channel and 1818 have line inputs. Some set ups benefit from using a DI Box. The audiobox does have a DI for instrument such as bass and guitar.
A line level output from a looper will work best through a DI box into the audiobox. If you have the four channel or eight channel version audiobox, they have line inputs and a direct connection can be made between the looper and interface.

You mean something like this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/IMP2 I’m trying to loop acoustic guitars with a Ditto X2 which only has ¼ input jacks, using the m7 mic which has XLR jacks, into the two channel Audiobox. I understand the Ditto X2 is not made for vocal loops, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work if the signal is coming out of the looper into the USB interface. Could I use an adaptor that goes from XLR to 1/4 inch or is it that the M7 USB mic will only work plugged into the USB interface directly. I’m sure the answer to this problem is to just buy a better mic, or buy the Ditto mic looper that has XLR jacks, which I will eventually do, but for now is there a way to loop my acoustic guitars with what I have which is basically the Ditto X2, the two channel Audiobox and the M7 USB mic? Thanks

If your mic is the Presonus M7 Condenser mic, it uses an xlr cable and is not a USB mic and it also has to have 48v phantom voltage.
To plug the M7 into the looper you will need to route the M7 through either a DI box that also provides phantom power or a mixer that provides phantom power and feed that output into the looper. In order to utilize the stereo effects created by the looper you will need a 1/4" stereo splitter cable for the ditto's input and output. Recording looped vocals, and not applying any stereo effects, use the mono input and output. The audiobox input will accept a 1/4" mono input, so a 1/4" - 1/4" mono cable would work. If you use a standard guitar chord, use the shortest length that is practical.
You can buy a xlr-1/4" adapter but that does not provide the phantom power to the M7 and so that will not work.

I haven't tried this myself but looking at the audiobox, it is also possible to connect the M7 to the mic input of the audiobox and apply phantom power. Connect the L -(mic) main output from the audiobox to the mono input of the Ditto Looper and then take the mono output of the Ditto Looper and connect to the right (instrument) input of the audiobox. Similarly, you can get the M7 signal from the headphone output and feed that into the looper.
These methods, especially the headphone signal will likely have an impedance mismatch with the looper and it will be difficult to avoid distortion if there is a wide dynamic range in the signal. Of course, at this point, you can record vocals into the mic or use the microphone to record your acoustic guitar if the guitar doesn't have a pickup.
If you try this, start with all of your volumes at LOW levels and use as low level throughout the routing chain as possible. Possible problems with this method is a ground loop hum, feedback squeal and over driving the signal causing distortion.
You will have two USB input signals from the audiobox USB into your DAW software. The left channel will be the M7 output, dry, with no effects from the looper. The 2nd input will be the mono output of the looper, which will be the loops and effects that are created from the split signal take from the M7. Your two input channels should be set to record mono.

Okay, what I’m trying to do is loop an acoustic dobro, that has no pickups into my DAW using the 2 channel Audiobox and Studio One software.
Since the Audiobox already has 48v phantom power and accepts both xlr or ¼ in plugs, I don’t think I would need the DI box with phantom power.
it seems I could just go into the Audiobox in-jack like always with the m7 mic then out of the left and right ¼ main jacks in the back of the Audiobox that now go to my studio monitors, route those instead to the two ¼” in-jacks on the Ditto X2 and just monitor the recording with headphones.
The Ditto looper is the last pedal in my pedal chain before going into the Audiobox, so all my FX pedals would be there, or I could just use the onboard FX plugins in the S1 arsenal. I realize this would not be stereo, but mono is fine for now.
Would I still need to split the wet signal into the looper, or would just using two cables from the main outs of the Audiobox to the two in-jacks of the looper work?

You're right. Your hardware setup is to connect the M7 mic to the audiobox as you normally do. Take the output from the audiobox and connect it to the Ditto Looper. Take the mono output from the ditto Looper and connect it to the second input of the audobox.
S1 gets its channel inputs through the USB cable from the audiobox. In S1 an input channel can be assigned L, R, or L+R for stereo from the two audiobox outputs.
Create two channels (tracks) in S1, assign the input of the first track to L
assign the second track to R
Track one should receive the mic output from the audiobox and
Track two should receive the Looper output from the audiobox.

Thanks, Fogel: I think that will work. Can I just pan one track left and the other right, or do I have to change something in settings. Yes. Each track is an individual track when connected in this way. You pan from the Studio One DAW so panning can be however you want and what best fits the song.
