Reason is, in fact, a DAW. It does not, however, accept plugins or VSTi. It uses a proprietary format which are sold as Refills and Rack Extensions. And no, PG Music products do not include Rewire. I have probably been the most vocal proponent thereof, but it hasn't happened yet.
The upshot, for me, has been this. BIAB is my primary music creation tool. Reason is my DAW of choice. Since 2006, when I first got my hands on Reason 3, my MO has been to create MIDI files in BIAB and import them into Reason, where I revoice, augment, and massage them. It's pretty cumbersome, but I haven't found a better way to do what I do.
Incidentally, I'm running Reason 6.5.2. I have the upgrade to 7, but haven't installed it yet.
