try putting the plug in the master buss FX bin Yes, I always have ozone in the master buss (although since I only have one track it might not matter in this case).

What DAW software are you using again?
Either your hearing is shot or it's not hooked up right. <grin> If you can't hear a difference with EVERY preset, somethings wrong with the flow. I can't think of a time when a preset made an unnoticeable difference.
What OS on this machine?

Ha, ha! I just went through and solo'd each module and made big changes to make sure each item (eq, dynamics, exciter, stereo imager and mazimizer) was actually doing something -- and they were.
I was only using the "balanced" presets, the heavy ones seem to do more. If you name me three presets to use I will try each one and export a little mp3 that has a sample of each. Maybe it is my system or install. It is just a simple dell windows 7 laptop.

Kev, I'm a big Ozone fan and I also own some waves stuff and the waves are no slouch. You probably aren't hearing the huge difference someone would hear who went to Ozone from nothing or from using lessor plugs. I didn't hear a huge difference in Ozone and Final Mix when I first switched except that Ozone to me was "silkier" for lack of a better term. You should hear a very discernable difference among the presets within Ozone itself especially among different genre presets. Within genres the changes in sound from one preset to another can be more subtle.

Izotope stuff works great for me, you have to play around with presets, etc. after awhile it all comes together, give it time.

There's times where I don't want a huge difference. O4 will do that too.
But yeah, as Rharv says, a preset usually will make a very noticeable difference.

Yeah, I'm thinking he may be hearing the dry mixed with the Ozone output somehow .. seems the most likely from the description.

Below is a picture of the presets I have. One thing I noticed is that you can get a more difference in effect if you go from a preset in one group and then jump to a preset in a another group. Inside f one group they are similar. Except for volume sometimes, the limiter isn't limiting hardly at all in some of the presets.

Here's another quick test with three files. The settings change every 10-12 seconds: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/101504714/bupBup_ozoneTest.wav (12.6 mb) #1: 0:00 #2: 0:10 #3: 0:22 #1: 0:34 #2: 0:46 #3: 0:58

Yeah, it looks like they've changed to groups instead of genres - I'm still using my old version - I'm used to it so I got Nectar 2 instead of upgrading Ozone. As an aside, I just watched a video with Graham interviewing Peter Hollens - YT star with over a million followers and one of the few who makes his living these days from music. He's still using the same computer and recording software he's had since 2007 so I don't feel too bad about not upgrading. LOL! Whatever works.
Finding a preset you like can be a daunting task with so many choices but once you do you can tweak it to your taste for the song you're working on. Then compare it to your waves and see which one sounds best to you. Ozone is great, but there are people who prefer waves and you may be one of them....
Good luck.

This may been been mentioned...but O 6 has a really cool feature with the bypass in that you can have it give you the same gain on the processed version and the dry version when you bypass. This is huge in A/Bing. Use the "ear" icon. Sorry I didn't have time to read the whole thread so apologies if this has been mentioned.

I found out that ozone 6 runs just fine on my vista computer -- with the network and virus stuff working. Plus I can run the screen resolution required to run in standalone mode if I wish.
I went through a song in waves and got it to where I wanted. I then turned the waves stuff off, loaded in the Greg Calbi "High Detail Wide" preset -- and it was quite similar to what I already had (and yes doing bypass allows me to hear the subtle changes that Greg is doing). But, I did a lot less tweaking in Ozone. Of course, I will have to go through each module and tweak them a little bit to see if I can get better. I am beginning to think that if you can hear a large difference between the raw file and the presets (except for volume), then the preset is too much (or the mix is atrocious).
The bottom line: No real conclusions yet. Ozone is tempting at $199 and a free upgrade to ozone 7. All of my waves stuff is 32 bit and one day will be obsolete. Since ozone comes in 32 and 64 bit, it will be good for quite a long time even if I never upgrade again. I have until Nov. 2nd to decide.

As an aside, many years ago I decided in favor of Ozone instead of Waves because Waves required the use of a dongle for copy protection, or writing to an odd sector on the hard drive. Is that still the case? [Ozone just uses registration numbers.]

I got the new year's day promotional package of waves from a producer in early 2008 (or so), so it doesn't need a dongle. I do believe waves is still doing that with the iLok system. I would never get that either.
I had the waves stuff for a few years before I even fired it up. A lot of waves plugins has changed, but that old stuff still works.

It seems like the only module I don't have in waves that is in ozone 6 standard is the harmonic exciter module.
Noel made a good observation on a PM we have going.
For example, my bup bup song is at -9.1db on the master buss with no waves plugins. When I load ozone in and choose a preset, the dynamics module (multiband compressor) probably doesn't even get turned on! The maximizer settings seem to be at -2 or so. Probably not enough to make much of a difference.
How do you handle that? Or what is you effective starting gain on your master buss?

-9.1 is not terrible. But -9 with which measurement? Average? Peak?
You can adjust the thresholds of the effects in Ozone to suit the piece when needed. And it's easy enough to lower the 'Input' slider on Ozone to compensate also.

-9db is the peak on master buss (that's all sonar shows there).

Just a quick question, can you use Ozone live? I'm assuming I could run it as a VST within BIAB, but could you run it over eg a wave file and live vocals. I'm assuming not? I could download it and play I guess.....
Thanks.
