It's been quite a while since we had a modern jazz disc and if there are any plans to do another it would be good this time round to include more in the way of styles with a looser 'broken time' approach to the beat.

I'm thinking of Ed Blackwell's playing behind Ornette Coleman on the early
Atlantic sessions with the kind of New Orleans influences he brought ot the basic bebop jazz beat.

Another area which should be possible with 'real drums' are non-metric 'free' styles which can range from the rubato ballads of late period Coltrane to the sort of aggressive all out free form of Cecil Taylor with Sunny Murray or Andrew Cyrille.

I know some say that jazz is over-represented in BIAB but this isn't the case nowadays and hopefully we'll see more activity on this frony in the near future.
