I have imported a Midi file into BIAB. When I look at it in the Piano Roll Window, I see parts assigned to various channels, and it seems to match the default channel settings: Bass=2, Piano=3, Melody=4, etc. But everything plays through the Melody part. Is there a way to assign the channels to play through the desired instrument parts? Thanks for any help.

If you open the midi in Realband it will be a lot easier.

That's the way BIAB works, Bill.
The legacy track names (piano, bass, drums, etc) and their associated channels are based on generating accompaniments by the use of styles.
When you import a MIDI file, it doesn't put the bass part on the bass track or the piano part on the piano track. Everything gets loaded into the Melody track. You can use the Sequencer feature of BIAB to rechannel those tracks, but if you select the same channels as something generated via one of the style tracks, you are going to get multiple sounds playing on the same channel with that same instrument.
Most people usually bring in a MIDI file to extract a melody or a solo or a particular riff, and then channel it to deconflict with the other BIAB parts. If you really want to just work with the MIDI file, I would also suggest using RealBand instead.

You have to use the Seq Button (Sequencer) in Biab if you want to change midi data/channels etc.
When you select a style to play with the midi, Biab will ask if you want to use Biab to play along with the midi or not.
If the original midi file has the same channels as Biab uses, there is a chance that it was made with Biab to begin with. Do a song search for it with Biab format .mgu and you will probably find the original Biab file.

Thanks for the responses. Basically all I needed to do was get the bass and drum parts, without anything else. I was able to do that by disabling the other channels. Will just have to play the Melody part for that song, instead of Bass and Drums, as we usually do. I did search for a BIAB version of the song ("Teddy Bear" by Elvis), but no luck. I haven't dug into using Realband, but probably should, as I'm sure it has lots of useful functionality.
Thanks, Bill R

This post (#287661) has information about a program that can convert MIDI 0 to MIDI 1. I actually use Sonar, which does this easily, but there are other tools that can perform a similar task.
BIAB & RB2025 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
