I am trying to export as an MP3, (via file menu) but BIAB only creates a wav file, even though MP3 is definitely selected. Is this a bug with BIAB 2015?

Hi pax-eterna

BIAB will first create a wav file and the mp3 is then created from that. The fact that BIAB is not following through with the mp3 suggests that you might not have the mp3 codec installed on your system. I obtained the codec by installing the K-Lite codecs found at the below link. They are free to use.

http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

If you're not familiar with installing freeware, and the potential for other unwanted programs to be installed in the process, I suggest that you avoid installing these.

As an alternative, I encourage you to consider using wma format for compression rather than mp3. Personally, I prefer wma... I work on the principle that it's the format that PG Music use for their Realtracks. The size of wma compressed files is the same as mp3... wma is also the native Windows format.

BIAB will save to wma. It will create a wav first and then create the wma file from that.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thank you Noel smile I have the LAME Codec installed, so I cannot understand why BIAB refuses to create one. Just tried it again frown Okay I will double check on whether BIAB is actually "seeing" the codec. It might be because BIAB is running from an external USB drive and not the system drive? Although perhaps I am clutching at straws, as it doesn't seem to matter for all other operations.

Do you have the LAME ACM installed, or just the LAME DLL/EXE (they are two different installs)? You need to install the LAME ACM to use LAME with BIAB or RealBand. BIAB and RealBand only use codecs visible from within the registry.

John, you raise an interesting point, and one that might be the issue I'm having. I can see in my program files that I have the program LameXP installed. How do I know if I have the LAME ACM installed. Is this a different program than LameXP? Is there a place on the HD that I can verify this?

I also see there is some issue with 32 bit versions and 64 bit versions. Since I'm running a 64 bit OS, do I need to configure the install differently?

Jeff

I just did the LAME ACM install (right click on the .inf file) and BIAB still will not produce an MP3...message is "No codecs for this file format"

FWIW, I tried it just now and it worked. Selecting export to mp3 I did receive a dialog GUI that prompted me to select the format, frequency, and bitrate I'd like to have.

I have the following Lame files on my drive:
enc_lame.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Plugins
lame_enc.dll (twice), one in C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Plugins
and the other in C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 2015\Nero Burning ROM\AudioPluginMgr

lame.exe - The .exe belongs to another program and is located in C:\sqview

BIAB is on E: and with the last search there were no lame files found on this drive.

LAME ACM

When you unzip the download file, there should be a Readme file that describes how to install it on a 64-bit system.

Anybody else having trouble getting this to install in Win7x64? I keep getting an error window that says "Error in setupapi.dll Missing entry: installhinfsection"

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Jeff

I've always preferred to export as a WAV file and then use CDex to make the mp3.

CDex is open source (free) and has a lot of options that allow you to make a better sounding mp3 file than any other that I've tried.
