I just observed that the real track making much better melodies and solos then the one biab generate, and would like to somehow save those as midi, so it can be played back in Real Band with a good VST plugin for the sake of more variation... Is there a way to do this in biab? I know it can be done via the save as PDF function and then use a 3rd party PDF to midi software, but then I have to buy this program... I already tried it with the Myriad PDF to MIdi and it worked, but when I printed it only one track will be printed and I could not see how to select the melody or solo track only, so I had to run the saxophone in the piano track and then print.. Any way around this ?

Midi RealCharts, you can just drag the RealTrack with the RealChart to the mid drop station.
In Realband just right click on a track > Enable RealCharts then open the Biab file and it should load a midi track for each RealTrack that has a chart.

If I understand your question correctly, the answer is NO. Not to my knowledge. I'm sure there are some folks who have workarounds, but the question there is, just how complex is the process and is it 100% accurate?

I too wanted to do that... use the melody or the chords played on a piano part generated in Real Band to be converted to the exact midi notes so I could use a better sounding synth with sampled piano. Something in the piano part generated by RB just didn't sound all that good. It might have been the conversion artifacts or something else. The notes it played were awesome and I loved what it played.... just not how it sounded.

So I set about trying to convert that exact part to midi. I came to the conclusion that where is no way to accomplish that task.

It would certainly be really cool if that were possible with a few clicks of the mouse.

There have been programs purporting to that for some time. The polyphonic nature of most audio tracks has made most of them interesting "in theory."

http://www.music-notation.info/en/compmus/audio2midi.html

Melodyne (though expensive) seems to do a pretty good job with monophonic tracks. In my experience, music that doesn't swing, and has a regular pulse, tends to work best.

I just can highly recommend Melodyne too. Its really great. All the realtracks are not really perfect. The musicians, which are playing, are doing a good job and its often musically on a top level, but that doesn't mean that you can use it right away for your own production. There is a lot stuff, which need to be adjusted.
With Melodyne you can do exactly that was is needed. You can convert audio to midi , if you want, and then use vsts to play the parts. But that often doesn't make it better, because the Live-music with real instruments and a good musician sounds much better. With midi-instruments the soul is lost, especially for solos. Here comes Melodyne into the game and you can edit with this programm audio like midi. You can change, delete and edit every note , which is played by the musician. You can make it exactly to that, what you want. Thats really awesome.

Melodyne Editor is polyphonic. I've used it before to fix piano parts.

The problem with it is that not only does it seem to pick up the notes played, but it also picks up "ghost" notes as well. Harmonics and other such things that are not really notes being played.

There's a great video on the Celemony web site that deals with poly editing. As I recall, much of it is guess work.... trial and error to eliminate the chaff from the good stuff. (at least there used to be) here it is>>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHjoaSPeNT8

I have never used ME to attempt to convert audio into midi so I can not vouch for it's accuracy in that realm. My suspicion is that there is still a lot of work to be done coding the software to do that accurately.

I have used it to convert audio, both monophonic and polyphonic, to MIDI and it is the best converted that I have every encountered. A few times I had to make no corrections while others there were only a few notes that had to be changed. I have converted guitar, bass and a couple of RTs with great success.

Melodyne Editor doesn't read pitch bends and has trouble with hammer ons and pull offs. It will read the hammer on and pull offs but they may not be legato. It reads guitar chords very well. Of course your millage my vary depending on your initial audio.

Ps - for get trying to copy a CD to MIDI. It ain't gonna work!

Ok, thank's a lot for great answer to my question guys! U just saved me 50 box for buying the myriad PDFtoMidi solidrock! Because ur tips did really worked.. Of course midi can never replace real tracks, but it can work great together with a real track as long as they r playing exactly same notes....
Probably melodyne could do a better job, but is way to expensive for my use....

Trygve,

This link will take you to a post by Peter Gannon (the PG in PG Music) about piano Realtracks. Because of the way they are recorded, the midi files for piano Realtracks should be an exact copy of what was played on the Realtrack. As others in above posts have indicated, this is not true all Realtracks, though. Because Realtracks are audio files, they are not easily converted to midi.

Hope this adds a little extra insight,
Noel

Why not try the "Pitch to MIDI" conversion tool built into RealBand? Export the solo track as a wave file then import it into RealBand. I didn't know the tool existed until Callie wrote a tip. You can read Callie's tip ++ HERE ++

Pitch to midi is for single notes.

What we're all talking about is AI as in Artificial Intelligence. The only AI I've seen who could do this like a human was the android Data in Star Trek The Next Generation after he was fitted with his "emotion chip".

I've seen a couple of vids put out by university labs using millions of dollars worth of super computers with custom software that appear to do great audio to midi conversions and other creative audio manipulations but nothing that has filtered down to us schleps with our basic PC's and Mac's.

You know there's lots of smart post doc students who would love to make their billions creating an app for this, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

On the other hand, what happens when they do? Even more regular folks can manipulate music and create stuff in their home computers that sounds even more professional than we can do now. That empowers even more millions of people writing and and producing stuff at home trying to submit tunes for publication. What does all this do to the music industry? A lot of us already complain loudly about how it's gone down the crapper, do we have any more complaints left when home production quality gets turned up another notch?

I've been using Melodyne Editor to convert monophonic and polyphonic RTs to midi with some great results. It's not perfect and can't handle the kitchen sink but depending on the source material, it can be quite worthwhile (I also used it to turn my voice into a convincing flute -- way cool!)

Where it struggles is with things like pitch bends, heavy reverb (I get audio as dry as possible before melodyning-to-midi) and non-pitched noises like aggressive thwacking in strummed guitar parts, for example. It can also help a lot if, before converting to midi, you "flatten" the audio by reducing / eliminating vibrato and pitch drift using Melodyne's Pitch Modulation and Pitch Drift tools.

Not cheap software, but very very impressive, in this regard as well as other.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
